10K in June
Hey guys.
Ive been running for some time now, mainly to maintain my fitness for other sports ; Football and Rugby. I play mens rugby on a saturday and junior football on a Sunday ( as im still only 18).
Although recently iv started to enjoy my running and in the past i just used to go for a run round my town, not measure how far or the time really but it seemed to keep me in good shape.
Then my mum purchased a treadmill for herself and in these winter months iv been running on that as its a bit nippy outside and theres a TV in our garage so i dont get bored whilst running on it. Obviously when it starts to get warmer ill get out on the streets again.
But iv been running on it and last night did my first '10K' , on a treadmill so obviously not as hard as it would be normally. I ran this in 43 minutes which i was pretty pleased with, although im not sure wether to be or not?
Im just wondering what training i need to do to be able to go under 40 minutes in a 10K in June. At the moment my schedule looks like this :
Monday : 7/8 K Jog on the treadmill + Weights
Tuesday: Mens rugby training/ Regional U18s rugby training
Wednesday : School football match + Weights ( Could fit in a jog in the evening aswell)
Thursday : U 18 football training
Friday : Treadmill / Squash match
Saturday : Mens Rugby Match
Sunday : U18s Football match/ Regional U18s Rugby match ( We have a fair few weeks off however).
I know this doesnt leave a lot of time for running :/ but 2/3 sessions a week could be enough? I have all my school work to do as its my last year at school hoping to go to university next year.
But does anyone have any tips on how to gear my training for not only 10Ks dipping under 40 minutes, but also for a bit of fat loss and also fitness for my Rugby.
And how detrimental is running on a treadmil as suppose to proper road running, as i say back in february time ill probably start hitting the streets again.
I dont know if these are needed but ill add them anyway
AGE : 18
Height : 6 " 1
Weight : 14 stone
Thanks.

woooh
you do a lot of weight bearing sports..so it should be fine.. the tredmill is a bit more forgiving than the road!
enjoy your sports and your youth dont waste it.

the weight is fine but the training schedule looks a nightmare. you should have a day off every week to recover! you cant really do anything given your current training. you probably are capable to get under 40 mins for a 10k race but stop trying to do everything. focus.

Just out of curiosity...why are you still a junior if you are 18? NOTHING annoyed me more than when I turned 18 and a lot of places, colleges etc wanted parents permission for people aged under 19. 18 is adult age END OF. Once you are 18, you are OVER 18.
You spend ages trying to get to that age then they raise the buggering boundaries.

That is still stupid! Why make random under any age teams? There should be Under 18s, Under 13s and over 18s.
Those are in reference to physical boundaries. The kids who haven't started puberty, the ones that are mid-puberty then the big buff men. You don't want to be 18 and running around with a load of 15 year old lads.

See, I stand by my first point. You are an adult now, you should be put with the adults.
Oh well, if you enjoy it! ;-)

i think boys fill out a lot between 18 and 21 so especially in a sport like rugby, it helps to have u18 / u19 / u21 teams because physically competing with adults isn't manageable for most.

If you want to improve your 10km time, try and devote some more time to running. It seems that whilst you're obviously very active and fit, you only really 'run' twice a week? If you want to get faster you need to be running more often, and ideally further (at least once a week anyway)
