Back to back races?
Just wonder if it is a good idea to run back to back 10k races?
I have the City of Manchester 10k on Sun Jul 5th, but have spotted another smaller local 10k on the Wednesday before and am tempted to enter it for a variety of reasons. Was thinking I could run the small 10k, then rest up for three days and dive into the next one.
Would this be suicidal or potentially productive?! (Just don't mention people who run back to back marathons )

This is quite a personal thing to do I think, it depends on what you want to get from both races, if it is pb's might be a bit of a tall order, but it is also only a short distance, this isn't helping much is it!!!
I have done 2 1/2's 7 days apart and pb'd on both, only because I wasn't happy with the first time and still wasn't happy with the second.

I see no reason not to do these two races Rob. Will be tough if you do race them both hard but will also be a good sign of your fitness levels.
I feel a challenge coming...........

Go for it rob,if you find you cant run the second one as well as you hoped, then it`s a lesson learnt.
Good luck with it.
I`ve got a few coming up close together myself.
5k trail on 10t June.
Southend half on the 14th,
5k Trail on the 16th.
The first 2 should be ok,but I think the 5k on the 16th might turn into a jog around.

Hmm, there seems to be a bit of consensus here.
I've often felt after a race where I've not done as well as I thought I might, "If only I could have another go in a few days while I've got that in my mind" - well this might be my chance. Or when I've done well, I feel it would be nice to have another go right away!
Maybe it will be interesting psychologically as well, as neither race will feel like "this month's biggie" so maybe I will put less pressure on myself and do well.
Think I might just do it

I am doing 10K tomorrow. Next one Sept 6th. I am now moving to intermediate staus - up from beginner! This means I have a new 8-week strength and speed programme after this one, before next one. Question: between race 21 June and 8-week programme starting 13 Jul, what should I do? Lots of programmes give advice pre-race, but little info on what to do after to keep your training gong, whlst still allowing sufficient recovery.

Well, it depends. After my first 10k I think I rested for a week and dined out on the elation of finishing, these days I sometimes go out for a run the day after a race, or have a couple of days off.
If you have been training hard up to a race, and have a hard race, there is nothing wrong with just taking it easy for a week or two (in fact it can help to build easy weeks into the schedule anyway), maybe a few days off, and some nice easy runs just to keep things ticking over before you start the hard training again. Of course with experience, you will find what works best for you.
Good luck in your race!
