ahem (clears throat, straightens tie and shuffles papers round on desk)

did we say the results were on the web from Glastonbury on Sunday? Let's get them out of the way first . .

there were 376 runners overall, and Trin finished 66th, and was 6th lady, and 5th LV35 . . pretty good eh?

I set off too quickly, ran the first 3 miles in 23.34 and the final 2.69 miles in 23.54 . . and finished in 180th place as 17th V50 . .

the results are quite amusing once you sort them out . . somebody called Free Cannabis finished in 59th place for example . .

so . . fast forward to Wednesday night . . and we were sat in the car beforehand wondering whatever happened to global warming? It wasn't evident down in Zummerzet I have to say . .

I decided beforehand that my target for the night was to run the 3.1miles faster than I'd run the first 3 miles of Sunday's race . . and foolishly I told Trin

just before the race began . . at the moment when Trin went to line up near the front and I sloped off to the back . . Trin told me that I could run faster than I thought I could . . and with those words ringing in my ears the race started . .

I set off at a comfortable pace but expected it to become uncomfortable before very long . . and sure enough, that's what happened. However, despite slowing slightly in the final mile, I actually achieved what I set out to do and finished in 23.32 . . thus beating my target by 13 seconds!! Abd setting what for me was a Vet50 pb as well

Trin's words did help, I can't deny that . . but I did have a greater incentive . . I had the key to the car . . which meant that Trin would be getting cold waiting for me after the finish . . and a cold Trin is not a happy Trin . . !!!

anyway . . there were 162 runners there last night and I finsihed 114th overall and 19th V50 . . which wasn't too bad considering that short fast races are not my thing as a rule . .

and that's the end of the news for this race . . and so it's goodnight from me . .

Hello, hope you don't mind me butting in. I was ust wondering how you found out about these races. I live 2 minutes away from Yeovilton where you have just raced and I knew nothing about it. Do you have a map of where you ran? I have never ran a measured distance before and I would love to have a go.
Any help gratefully received.
Kerry

Hi kerry

there is a series of 5k races organised by Yeovil Town RRC, on the 2nd Wednesday of every month during the summer at 7.15pm. The race HQ is at the air base in Yeovilton opposite the Fleet Air Arm Museum. You can just go along and enter on the evening of the race.

Also. there are a list of Somerset races here... http://www.somerset-athletics.co.uk/...071[1].pdf

Rich and I ran the 6th race in the series yesterday

It was the Crewkerne 9 and it was a very hilly 9 miles too!

Due to some family stuff that I've got going on, I was really not in the mood to race at all yesterday. But we found ourselves on the start line so that was that.

The first couple of miles was practically all uphill, which didn't help my mood at all and I more or less decided at that early stage that I would just use the race as hill work and therefore probably not use it as one of my '8 races to count' in the series results.

Apart from all the early climbing, there was one sharp downhill in the first mile, which I remember thinking I would have to climb again in the last mile of the race.

It was a tough course, but really lovely out in the countryside too, along quiet country roads.

The hill in the last mile did get me...I had to walk on it....twice! But there was a fellow runner urging me on and I eventually picked myself up and ran the rest of the way to the top. Then it was a short slope down to the finish

I was quite surprised to learn that despite me writing the race off as 'hill training' I finished 5th lady overall, 3rd LV35 in a time of 68 minutes 10 seconds. I missed out on an age catagory prize by 1 place...but the lady in front of me was younger

Rich did well too, but as usual I'll let him post his results here

The next race in the series is called 'The Quantock Beast' but it's while we are on holiday so we won't be able to do it (phew!)

So our next one will be a nice 'rural, undulating' Wellington 10 mile race in mid July
