Is there a rule for PBs then? If your best was 20 years ago but you are now v45 & rising can you measure v45 times as PBs?

Some people have age group PB's... such as 40's, 50's etc, because if they set their PB when they were in their 20's or early 30's then it becomes more and more difficult to break as age takes it's toll

Wink vets and PBs

i am 48 and only started running
4 years ago. the chairman of our club is a very
quick vet 60 and he agrees that as our vet cat
changes we should start afresh with our PB
targets. sounds sensible to me as it means we
can still have targets at our age, run4urlife.

When I set my PB's back in the very early 90's a 34 minute 10K which I was posting at the time wouldn't place you in the top 50 in a lot of races now it's top ten stuff. the standard is dropping. don't you think? come on you vets:-)

It's been a few years since I've run my best times. I now stick to beating my "vets" PB.
I have been running for 20 years (49 now) but I do keep a hope that I have not yet begun to decline.
Both my training and races have morphed over the years, I now train off road as much as possible, this includes very hilly terrain, and my long runs are longer, 2-3 hours when fit.
I race off road as well, local hill races in the Pentlands and one long race a year such as the Highland Cross (20 miles across Scotland followed by a 30 mile cycle).
I did run a 1/2 marathon in Inverness in March, (1:32) 3 mins outside my PB. But I had a stinker of a cold at the time, and yes should not have done it. But as a mental and physical experiment it proved that the body can only take so much, I suffered terribly for 2 weeks after.

slowed down but hopefully speeding up again

Most of my PB's were set in the late 80's & its so long ago now & really cant lay-claim to them anymore.

I do still hanker after a lifetime Marathon PB as I never did a fast one when I was running well.

After various lay-offs over the years I am back in full swing & though continually despondent at the speed I now run at, I am making some small progress with 92.17 half marathon & 3:37:56 marathon at Edinburgh the other week.

Only 33 mins faster reqiured for a lifetime best :-) Oh well...I can dream ! I must push myself to chase after the young 'uns at our Club, Clapham Chasers.

PB's

My last PB was run 15 years ago when i was 33 so no PB's as a veteran i'm afraid! Important thing is i still train regularly and have made the transition to triathlon, less wear on my knees!
