I got a free bottle with a hole in the middle with a big pack of flora at tescos. Please excuse the advertising! It's unintentional! Other spreads and supermarkets are availiable!!

I was given a 'water rucksack' (for want of a better description) as a Birthday present. I've used it once, absolutely useless. It took more energy for me to suck out the water than the whole of the three miles I'd run!!

I never take water with me on a run and never feel the need for it. However, when running in an organised race I always take some when I pass the water station (How much actually gets drunk is a topic for another thread!)

In a race i'd definately be drinking if I was running for 2hrs+ but for training? Not so fussed.

Perhaps a slightly backwards mentality to what some of you practice but when training I don't really like carrying a bottle around and I'm not really bothered about ensuring I'm hydrated for optimal performance. Okay common sense says to make sure you're not going to keel over and die from dehydration, but didn't some great runner once say something about training under unfavourable conditions makes things easier come race day?

I've never carried a drink on a run in my life...
... Probably why I can't understand why I see so many people lugging bottles around with them.

I have a bottle belt and find it comes in handy on longer runs. Anything above 6-8 miles, I find that I need to have some water with me and the belt lets me take a drink without having the hassle of actually holding the bottle all the way round.

I run with a bottle on every run over 4 miles, I always want a sip every mile I think it has become a comfort thing...

For 1 1/2 hours plus I'd be inclined to take a drink of some sort. I normally use a saucony fuel belt - fairly comfy, and spreads the weight of the water around your waist in little bottles. Bumbags can work OK too. Scr8pe, did you check that the valve was pressed open in your water rucksack?

I find I notice difference in my gait if I wear my GPS watch, and a water bottle's many times heavier than that! So I try not to run for ages with something that heavy in my hand.
