The first time I ran in the gym after running on mud (it was fine when I was just keeping to the pavements, but not on mud), I thought I'd be OK just to brush the worst off...

Then when I got off the treadmill, I saw the floor behind it was covered in bits of mud. Very embarrassing.

Since then I've been washing it off, but it's such a faff - I'd rather not bother

I think maybe because only the middle of my long run is on trails, the last 3 miles of pounding on the pavements back must make it all fall off because I can't say I've ever noticed any muck quake.

That would make the difference, a_n_s. It's less than 100m from muddy field to my house, so it gets no chance to fall off.

washing machine on lowest temperature possible, with some non-bio detergent and no fabric softener. Once wash cycles finished, take out and dry naturally, for gawd sake don't ever tumble dry them! lol.

Well, I've just replaced my old Brooks Addiction 7 today with a shiny new pair. I bought my old ones last June and my toe was just about coming through the top! They were like comfy old slippers and kept me from injury throughout and I kept saying to myself that I would have to get a new pair for this year but never got round to it. Anyway, I'm £70 down now this month but I'm happy with my new shoes.

Maybe that's the mistake I made with my first ever pair of running shoes! I wore them through a flood (literally ankle deep icey water... that was fun)... and then put them in the tumble dryer in a pillow case afterwards so they'd be dry for my run the next day... after that they were like rock hard and I got some problems in my knees and stuff...

Anyway, I'm going to check out this new shop of Meadowhell tomorrow, and gunna get me some shiney NU SHOOOS!

Just went out with my new shoes for a short 40min run. With my last shoes I got no blisters or anything, this time, both feet at the same area I have small blisters I have looked in the shoes and can feel the reason for the blisters so fingers crossed this will soften up!

Glad I still have my other shoes to fall back on to rest my feet.

Owain... this is EXACTLY why it's recommended that people give their shoes plenty of time to bed in before racing in them - hopefully your shoes will soon mould to your feet and solve your blister woes

ye, thats why I got my shoes well before the race Not too worried as the shoes are really comfy and I think it is just a case, as you say, for the shoes to mould to my feet Will wear them around the house a bit more as well.

The new shoes i got I wore out on a short easy run this afternoon, they were quite firm and made my ankles ache a wee bit - but the exact same thing happened with my other ones, so I'm guessing just cuz they're the new versions of my other ones they'll soften up a wee bit.

Would wearing the shoes as my day to day shoes for a week help break them in? i.e. wear them to work and walk about in them rather than just running in them.

Would definately help. Mind you, a decent pair of running shoes which fit your feet well would be ok to go straight out the box.
