Thank you Fringe!

Lovely! I'll be instructing the cook to ensure the nuts are stocked up as I could only find sesames seeds this morning, but otherwise I think this is an excellent alternative to the muesli I normally eat. Much more flavour.

Ever seen Jamie Olivers Pukkola.??

Make Pukkola, its a cross betweeen Museli and Porridge, and is absolutely amazing.

Jamie Oliver's Pukkola

Ingredients:
8 large handfuls of organic porridge oats 2 large handfuls of oat bran 1 handful of natural dried apricots 1 handful of chopped dried dates 1 handful of chopped walnuts 1 handful of chopped or almonds or Brazil nuts, 1 crunchy organic apple per person

Preparation:
Mix all ingredients together in a large airtight container. This can keep for a couple of months in a cool place. Ideally the night before, although this can be done on the morning if you forget, cover as many bowlfuls as you need with your choice of milk and the apple grated. To serve you can add a banana, some berries, a dollop of live yoghurt, or more milk to taste.

Makes about a weeks worth working on smaller rather than larger visual portion sizes - it's very filling!

Remember breakfast is supposed to get you up and moving, and kick start your metabolism. Its full of natural sugars, and nothing in this meal is refined, so its wholesome and slow releasing. I love it and make it all the time

I put raisins in my porridge, they make it sweet enough.

I used to eat tons and tons of sugar but that was just an addiction. I haven't had sugar added to anythign for years now!

that sounds delicious, all it needs is a nice bit of jam and sugar to make it nice and ruined

My best muesli:

Loads of organic porridge oats
handful each of flaked almonds, chopped brazil nuts, pumpkin seeds, raisins, sultanas (no hazelnuts, hate them!) Soak in a bit of orange juice for a few minutes, then add milk or yoghurt, bit of brown sugar or honey if you want - some sweetness comes from dried fruit. Trying grating some apple on top...

As has already been said, raisins and honey. Both good additions to a healthy breakfast with the slow release but simple sugars. This will top up you liver glycogen levels just nice combined with the slower release oats to keep you going.

What about eggs for breakfast? 2 or 3 of those and a piece of fruit would keep you going and provide lots of goodness.

Regarding the salt. I would advise to go for something like rock or sea salt. As a runner you need more salt/sodium in your diet than Joe Bloggs since you lose lots when sweating. If you are short of salt and the electrolyte balance with that and sodium is out of sync then cramps are gonna happen. I ensure I add some sea salt to pre and post workout meals to replace what i have lost. some added salt to chips is fine although it would be better if you found a better food to add it to

Hi all

My breakfast consists of porridge, glass of black grape juice and a Yakult.

Have to admit I do put a tablespoon of sugar in my porridge Tried it with honey was was not too keen on that. I do love honey but for some reason not in porridge. Maybe try it with a banana next time but I usually keep the banana for a mid morning snack.

On the mornings I don't feel like porridge I usually have two slices of toast (the half white/half brown stuff) and peanut butter.

It's the Scot's Porridge Oats that I use but make in the microwave with milk.

Cheers

Gary

Tried something new today which I got a from a health magazine:

Two poached eggs. Then fried (with a teaspoon of olive oil) two mushrooms and a handful of spinach and added a pinch of black pepper.

Absolutely gorgeous.
