I'd agree with that Steve, and yes I am mightily impressed! You should get a certificate or something.

Gutted that I had to print out my own finishers' certificate from the Sheffield half... what's up with that?!

Yeah, the only thing I got for my £21 or whatever it was was a lousy bib and a finishers' medal... and an alpen bar that costs what, 40p? I didn't even get a pint of water!!! I suppose they did send me about a square foot of rain forest-worth of paper in leaflets and other bunf that I didn't really read. Tis a good thing I recycle. And the Alpen bar was FAAAAR too sweet and I was dying of thirst... I didn't get a foil blanket thing either, not that i needed it... Loads of other races cost the same and you get a tee and all that jazz... it's crap - I suppose all the money went into the prize fund or something. I'm not really bothered though... I mean I do think for the money they coulda done a bit better. I mean the marshall people were no use, near the end I asked one of them how much further, she said 3 miles... about 15 minutes later I came across the 10 mile marker (the only one I saw)... she lied! LOL didn't make a difference though lol... anyways.. I'll shut up now.

Yeah course it was - I wouldn't exactly recommend it to anyone who's not from Sheffield really, but I haven't been in any other halfs, so I can't compare, I'll let you know in June after the Malvern one.

I think that forums should be viewed in the same way as actual groups of people talking down the pub (for want of a better example). Don't all conversations go off at tangents and get side-tracked?
This forum would risk becoming sterile if there were to be introduced a strict "Stick-To-Subject" rule for every thread; and I think that many people would feel excluded and intimidated by such a ruling. The informality and (mainly) light-hearted nature which courses through this forum, make it the friendly place that most people seem to think it is.
Anyone who feels aggrieved by hi-jacked threads is, to be honest, just taking things a little too seriously. It's only a game after all.

There is also a place for off topic chat and its not on a thread where someone has asked a question hence you have off topic chat on forums ...

Are you the type pf person down the pub that would randombly change the subject every 2 mins?

Simon, I'm sorry if you feel that your questions (or questions generally) aren't being answered. It's a curse that all forums live with: it's just the way they work.
The "Off Topic" section of the forum is a space where people start threads which otherwise would have no obvious home. The off topic content in other threads happens as a result of spontaneous banter.
In my last post I was just trying to explain that conversations do tend to change course spontaneously. Obviously, in a face-to-face situation it's always going to be more apparent as to when it will be appropriate to add something to a conversation which may divert its course. But as I said before, this is a very informal meeting place, and most people like to have a laugh and spend some time away from the more serious aspects of their lives.
I really don't think it's a case of members deliberately going onto a thread with the sole intention of sabotaging the subject just for the sake of it. Posts are merely written as spontaneous reactions to what is being read at any given time. There's no malice involved. Again, we're only talking about running: it's not a life or death thing. And most questions do get appropriate replies sooner or later, don't they?

Now I'm going to change the subject... How're the studies going, Simon? Is Carnegie still one of the top Sports Science facilities in the country? Have you any idea what you're going to do with your degree when you qualify? I have friends who studied there back in the 80's. I've raced on the track there a few times (is it the one with some halls of residence right next to it?).

I agree with you here, does it really matter it shouldn't be taken to seriously. Like you say the threads usually get brought back to square one eventually
