Having had the £50 pair and a £100 pair the £100 has been better in some cases but not others ... its seems to vary from manufacturer

Like all things in life you gets what you pays for, the £100 pound shoes will have higher quality materials in them ie lighter longer lasting stronger etc. Also to bear in mind is as also happens with these things the technology in your £100 shoes this year will be in your £50 shoes in the next year or two.

My advice with all footwear is buy the best you can afford. A mantra I've stuck too much to Mrs Squints disgust as I own a £200 pair of wellie boots and a £200 pair of walking boots along with three pairs of running shoes costing between £80 and £95 and numerous other boots shoes and trainers. This leaves me no leg to stand on when Mrs Squint goes shoe shopping.

Yes.
And although I hate to be serious about running-related stuff, I find it hard to believe that the extra money forked out is going to get you a shoe which performs any better than the cheaper models.
However, there is obviously a limit as to how little you should pay for shoes (unless this "cheap" pair has been well discounted). Cheap running shoes are always going to be a false economy.
But I must also add that I'm speaking as someone who's never had to choose shoes on the basis that they should perform any "corrective/preventative" function. It's hard to say if my opinion would be different if I'd ever had to select trainers for those qualities.

The Saucony Triumph is a £80-90 shoe normally anyway, it has obviously been reduced in price so you've got the benefits of a highly-technical shoe for a cheaper price.

Dimple - there are shops with gait analysis in Bolton, Chorley, Southport, Liverpool, Oldham. Are you near any of them?

That is often the case for running clothing in general too, I often pick up reduced running gear because it is the previous seasons colours, same in trainers aswell
