I had that dream a few nights before the half I did - I dreamt that cuz I was getting a lift from my uni tutor, and him being a bit silly couldn't work out how to start his car - so I missed the start of the race!!

Are you keeping some of this premonition back from us, Leece?? I'm now starting to think you ran the race not only late but with no trousers on. Perhaps that's why people were talking!

Funny that, I almost ALWAYS have a dream where something goes wrong at a race (missing start, taking wrong route, getting held up or something) two nights before the race (the night before I just struggle to sleep).
It's certainly a race you'll NEVER forget Leece, and you've got endless opportunities to set new PB's... most importantly you won the mental battle against those feelings of wanting to drop out or not start - as we all know, psychology plays a massive part in running and it sounds like you're on top of it

I remember my girls once being late for a race, and we had to sprint to the start line. We heard the gun go off just as we parked up:eek: , but it was a relay race so they put them into the third group. What a nightmare at the time though.

I can totally relate to that.....(long story)
I was running in the Bupa Great Edinburgh Run on Sunday and had been looking forward to it for ages. I always leave with plenty of time no matter where we are headed (obsessive about it) and we thought parking wouldn't be a problem as we normally park at my OHs grannies which is a lovely wee private car park which we have a permit for. So far so good.....
On arrival at the car park we noticed that we couldn't actually get in as it hadn't occured to me that the race route went right past the entrance so we spent about 25 mins driving about Edinburgh looking for a space. Made it to the Meadows at 10.15 for the 10.40 start but by this time the car-parking stress had taken its toll on me so I was needing a loo visit.
Stood and waited in a queue for a group of about 10 portaloos which after about 10 mins noticed was moving really slowly. Thats because only two of them were in use . By this time my "wave " was being called so I had to decide whether to miss start or risk it and jump in the loo on the way round.
I will never risk it again. If there were loos on the way round I didn't see them. Fortunately there were no "accidents  " but I didn't enjoy the race at all and I couldn't build up to anything like my fastest speed for the finish. To cap it off Edinburgh was bathed in sunshine with very little wind so I was like a tomato from about 3km onwards and until about 4pm the same day. I had really hoped to finish in under 1 hour (which would have been a great result for me). The final insult- 1hr and 7 seconds......grrrrr
I can almost smile about it now....maybe...

I think everone should have a "late for race story", so here's mine The scene: Blackpool, the race: Northern Vets 10mile. I left home with what I thought plenty of time and made my way to what I thought was the start, the Fire Station in Lytham St Annes.
Got changed with lots of other runners milling about, thought: I'll warm up with a jog around the block, got back to the fire station and noticed that there were considerably fewer runners than before! Turns out the start is about 1/4 mile away on the sea-front, but I have no idea where! I went with my OH and she is not a runner so cue me dragging her down the rd with me moaning " I'm gonna miss the start!"
I saw a runner and set off after her, only to find she was just out for a run and wasn't taking part! She did, however, know where the start was and I made it just as they were lining up.
Anyhoo I managed to break 1hr 20 with 1:16 so it was not all doom and gloom just very stressful!

OH dear ............. ha ha made me laugh too.....
You will all laugh again now.
Turned up last night ON TIME for a 5mile race (2nd one of the series) was all prepared, plenty of water, flapjack and half banana hour before... no stopping me .... i started off at a better pace this time, as last race was very fast start... so i paced myself good.
Got round the first lap (2 lap course) coming up to the 3 mile mark BAM ...... flew in the air and stacked it on the floor, full flat out star fish on the concrete, i tripped over a crack in the pavement........... i got up, looked at my hands bashed all my knuckles in my elbow and my knee ..... shook me up a bit .. shocked me, someone running alongside me asked if i was ok .... i just said yeah did not want to stop him. i did stop to check myself over a bit ......but after i fell my knee was throbbing and my knuckles were so sore and also throbbing ..... i came into the finish and see my club runners there and showed them my injuries, and i start to laugh as sundays race was a disaster and last night now, what with my headaches lately too i been such a sick note, they all said i was after attention again and threw myself on the floor.....
So people am i a liability ???????
I was 50 seconds slower than my previous race last night so oh well one more race to go in the series surely nothing else can go wrong. !!!!
Next race i will have to go out with sponge around me.
