Kev there really isn't any secret to it, just get out there 3/4 times a week and gradually build up distance/speed!
You can complicate it later(intervals, hill sessions, Fartleks etc..) and if you want to enter a race then go for it! Don't worry about times, positions if you can run the distance non-stop you probably won't be last!

Where do you usually go to run?
|
aerun, I run the trails and footpaths around Stockport, there are lots of off road sections which I find more interesting than pounding the streets(less wear and tear too!).
I usually run in the morning(8:30am) before I go to work and I warm up in Vernon Park then set off to where I want to go. If you fancy it let me know and I'll show you some routes!

Morning Obigone, generally i run on the street, and from Hazel Groove where i live most of time and most of my miles are to Poynton, sometimes to Stockport on the A6, I have tried a couple of time Lime Park and Wilmslow Park but never off-road....it's more complicate then street ways?

aerun, your best bet living in Hazel Grove(Groove! Like it!) is the canal tow paths and the Middlewood Way which runs through HG. I did a 10k in that area, it went from the Ring 'o ' Bells in Marple, upto High Lane and back, I think they are doing it again in Sept.
Trail running, for me, is so much more interesting than plodding along the streets! The scenery is better for a start! And you don't get into arguements with cars! The undulating nature means you get a better workout than on flat uniform streets.
Ciao!

Well suprise, suprise! I play bass too! Although not very well! I used to play in a duo, many moons ago, that played in pubs and clubs. I also dabble with: acoustic guitar, drums, and saxophone!

I'm still waiting for a response from this bloke who's connected with the race, I tried to apply on-line about 3 weeks ago, but got to the point where I entered all my bank details then hit a wall. Anyway spoke to this bloke I just want to make sure he's no record of me before I send in a postal application.
As this is my first race is this what everyone would recommend to apply through the post?
Thanks

Did you use the John Schofield site when you tried to enter online? I always use this site for online entries and I haven't had a problem yet!

There's no going back now. I'm doing Race for Life this Sunday which doesn't worry me that much but this 10k I've just entered will. Gotta give it a go though

Good for Dimple! Don't worry, if your not gonna win it(your not gonna win it are you?), then all you have to worry about is not finishing last! And, if you can run the distance, then I'll guarantee you wont be last!
My first race was a 10k, and, before I entered, I checked last year's results(using the same site) to see what the finishing times for the back markers were. As I knew what time I ran 10k in training was quite a bit better than this I knew I wouldn't be last!
Enjoy!

No I ain't gonna win it there's no doubt about that! I've just looked at last years results, and I now think I'll have to start pushing myself a bit more in training.
Not to worry though
