Hi TTR, I've just been reading through this thread which, for some reason, I haven't spotted before. It's really interesting to see someone else's progress and thoughts.
I haven't run a race yet. I'm going to do the Race for Life in England in June - do you have that in Canada - it's organised for Cancer Research and it's just for women. It's 5km and I'm going to do it with an old school friend who's going to travel over from Texas (I haven't seen her for 15 years). Then all being well I'm going to do a 5km here in France in May. My best 5km time so far is 37:15 but I've done 5km runs about 3 times so far! So, I've got a lot of training to do yet. I see you've already done 100 miles this year - wow, that's fantastic. Have you got any races in the pipeline?

Hi Pam
Good luck on your races and also doing it with an old friend that is so exciting .Don't worry and enjoy yourself and you will do just fine . I have a 10 K race coming up on March 14 ,looking forward to that one .I am also thinking of doing a 1/2 Marathon in June ,I am finding the thought of that one a bit harder .......lol. We do not have the race for life here ,I don't think so anyhow .....but do have the Terry Fox run ,that one is for cancer .
In the very first race that I ran , A walker beat me by about 2 minutes ....I have never seen anyone walk so fast . I had to give him a hug at the finish line ,I kinda thought that he deserved it .

My OH, former long distance runner before he damaged his back, walks almost as fast as I 'run' !! But he's very useful for training tips and moral support :-). He's going to 'push' me on a 5km timed run later this week so I can see how fast I can actually go. I think that on my own, I just sort of amble along! I'll let you know if I can beat my 37:15.

I am sure you will do just fine !!!Glad you have an OH that will help you along .Mine helps out in other ways ,he cleans house and looks after kids while I am running .The longer I run the cleaner the house gets , I like those slow long runs .....lol.
Yesterday morning he hit nicked the back legs of a moose , so he slammed on the brakes (not a good thing to do with all the ice on the road )But to make a long story short ...he is OK and so is the car .

Horrible run yesterday ,Well it started out fine , nice day , ice melting , sun felt warm I ran for 8K and then my legs shut down and I had to walk 2K home .Now I know this is all in my head because it doesn't matter what my running distance is , I always seem to shut down the last 2K of my run , 5K , 8K ,10K doesn't matter .Mabey I should change my running route because I know exactly how far I have run by the trees that I pass or a house that I have passed ,when I get to a certain house I know that I am at my 5K mark ....without haveing to look at my Garmin and then when I get to the stop sign I know that I have 2K to go ....and right at that moment I get sore feet (the bottoms )or a stiff hip or something that shuts my legs down .It is not the distance because even if I only run 5K as soon as I see the stop sign I am done .

Hi there, do you have a target time for your race? I do hope the weather's good for it. Have you got over your 'it's 2km to home I have to walk' block yet. I think that changing your route sounded like a good idea - is that what you've done?

It is in Edmonton along the north side of the North Saskachewan river .It is aloso a trail run , never done one of those before so not sure what to expect .I do know that it is a large run over 1000 people participating , that will make it very congested for a few K anyhow .Afterwards we will be having a sit down breakfast...so should be nice .
