Running Trainers Advice please

I'm fairly new to running, did a few months of running about 9 months back, then a big gap, now trying to get back into it - I'm 3 weeks into it- and enjoying it - and weight dropping off nice and quickly- but my trainers have just about had it - but would like some advice on replacement please. I'm up to 3 runs per week @ about 3.5 miles - and want to increase - but my trainers have lost all of their bounce, and soles are beginning to fall apart.

I've tried in the past many different brands, but only Asics size 7.5 seem to really fit me properly.

I bought Kayanos last time - which have been great - I bought them as I assumed as per most of the population that I was an over-pronator, but now looking at the wear on the bottom I'm not sure ...

Please see photo attached - the 2 left hand areas highlighted are where the wear is - in particular that central circle, the right hand area highlighted has much much less wear.

if its hard to see in the photo most of the wear to the tread is to the left hand third - which as this is the right trainer is the outside of the trainer. Does this mean I under-pronate - or because the Kayanos are designed to stop me over-pronating - thats just what its done ?

I'm quite bad in my running style I think, as I always feel very flat footed, rather than landing on the heel - but I've tried and it feels very odd.

As it seems from my tread pattern that I under-pronate - was considering getting Asics Nimbus's - but my question stands as above - does it just look like I under-pronate because the Kayanos are doing their job at stopping me over-pronate ?

thanks for any advice you can give,

best regards, Mark.

Mark.

Best thing to do is to go to your nearest specialist running shop and get your gait analysed

i agree with the above. i went to a running shop that had a treadmill and they had a camera which will recorded my running style. they played the tape back for me and then recommended the some trainers for me.

also if you dont want to buy from them you can look on the net for the same trainers that they recommened.

It's definitely worth going to a shop and getting their help.

I went into Run4it in Edinburgh on saturday and one of the staff assessed which kind of trainers I needed, simply by getting me to take my socks and shoes off and walking about.

It turns out that I'm very neutral and she told me that as the cheapest neutral trainers they had were £70, I should go to any sport shop and get a cheaper pair with good cushioning.

So they do concentrate on getting the best shoes for the person, not on making money. Definitely worth it.
