I'm going to look into a club, ive tried to register on line but i'm having a few probs so i'll get the phone number and ring this week. I also know someone from my sons school who runs she was giving me some advice on my knee pain so i might ask her if she knows of a club. All in all its been a good day, would i be over doing it if i went out tomorrow morning as well, that'd make it 3 mornings in a run.

Yes it would rest is an active part of your training program particularly as you have been suffering with knee pain.
Don't worry you'll be running half marathons before you know it. Try to do 3 sessions a week: one fastish, one long run and then a recovery run. Allow your body time to recover between runs.

That varies a lot depending on your fitness level, goals and previous training. The day after my marathon I ran 4 miles. But then I am looking for full recovery after a great effort.
The day after speed work I may run a slow 10 miler. That will provide a good session and still allow me to recover for the next hard one.
Just make sure that you run, don't strain and feel rested the next day

A recovery run is a slow jog yes and its usually short........depending on your training schedule.
Training for your first 5k is quite different to training for a marathon though isn't it Fulmar.

Ok the only temptation is with it being bank holiday i usually go out each morning of the weekend because i have more time. In the week its always a bit harder but i suppose tomorrow i could go out with my son on the bikes that was good fun last time i ached in places i never knew existed.

Definitely
My friend's girlfriend, who's just started running two months ago, runs veeeery slowly for 15/20 minutes on her recovery days.

I really love running on my own, it give me ME time! If Ive had a bad day it all flies away when I go running. I tend to stick to well used roads and well lit areas and always wear reflectives and flos and always take my mobile just in case. I tell my hubby how long my run is likely to be so he knows when I am due back.

Stotty - if you can run 3 miles in 27 mins you are probably beyond a 5k training schedule. Have a look at some 10k training schedules and maybe look to enter a 10k after your Race for Life. Have a look at www.halhigdon.com.

Ive put the Rosemere Cancer 10K in my diary but its just continual laps of an arena so it might be a bit boring. How many times should i train and how far if i do this 10K.

Have a look at the website I suggested - you should be able to train for a 10K about 3 times a week.

the good thing about running is that you don't need a training partner as such, you can do it on your own. Or get a dog. I have a border crossed with a springer. He'll go on forever.
