Running with a backpack

Hi all, I'm new to this forum and have just started my running career by running to work and back each day. It's only a mile or so each way, but I've never really tried running as a form of exercise before so it's a start.
I have to carry my work clothes to and from work so I bought myself an OMM backpack on recommendation. The pack is great, but I only have bog-standard T-shirts to run in and no matter how tight I do up the pack straps the bottom of my T-shirt rides up at the back after a few minutes. The result is that the pack has rubbed a sore patch onto the base of my spine.

Does anyone have any advice on how to prevent this from happening? Do I need a specialist type of running shirt?

Thanks in advance!

I wear a Nike active training top, they are quite expensive i suppose at around £20 but they are skin tight and you would never know you had it on, lovely and airey too.

Strange, but I think you'll find that the tighter you do the straps, the more likely it is that your shirt will ride up.

I also have a specialist nike top and the material is not the same as a normal t-shirt as it's designed to wick the sweat away from your body.

Have you tried taking a safety pin and pinning your t-shirt to your shorts?

I'm afraid I don't have any better advice than that cause I've never ran with a backpack on before.

Look for a fell running sack. O.M.M. are good I'm told.

Go techy with the shirt man!

I have the same problem when I run with a pack - my shirt rides up. I find once I have got sweaty the shirt stays in place.

I use bodyglide (available from Triathlon outlets) to stop the pack from rubbing me sore.

Thanks for the advice folks. I think I will go out and try out a few proper running vests then.
My sack is an OMM pack and the advice they gave me was to get a proper shirt and shorts - and to put more bricks in it, lol!

Vaseline could be a cheaper alternative to bodyglide.

yeh vaseline would probably work too... you just have to be a little careful what materials it comes into contact with.

the reason the tri peeps use bodyglide is that vaseline degrades the rubber/neoprene used in wetsuits.
