Pace/speed?

I'm probably being really thick or my GPS watch is naff! What is the difference between speed and pace. When I read laps on my watch my speed was 10.7kmh and pace was 5.32km. My other lap said speed was 10.3kmh and pace was 5.44km. It seems that the faster I go the lower the pace numbers. Can anyone explain pace to me?

Pace is the time it takes to cover one km e.g. 6.00min for a km, while speed is the number of km per hour that equates to e.g. 6.00min divided by 60.00min = 10 km per hour. So as you cover each lm quicker e.g 5.00m then the speed will equal 60/5 = 12 km per hour. I hope this helps.
