shoe type - wet test?

i have done the "wet test" to see what type of shoe i should use, i think i need stability shoes, but im not sure, i have included a picture below, do you think i need stability or support shoes?
also, is it worth buying expensive running shoes, or will cheaper ones be okay if they are the right type?

Er, do we need a "www dot" on the front of those references to allow us to use them as a direct link? I'm not sure.

Go to a specialist store.
Wet test is very general and doesn't always work!

Thumbs up

Hi , It appears to be a neutral foot however steepler is absolutely correct go get your gait analysis it's going to be expensive otherwise, espescially if you make the wrong choice .
and you can end up with unwanted injuries from the wrong type of shoe
I found from my own experience that you need to try on a number of different makes of shoe ,because they vary in size and width from make to make.

I personally run in saucony shoes but find that i have to have at least half a size bigger and sometimes a whole size bigger

It's worth getting it done even if you choose not to buy from the retailer and are attracted by the prices online.

However some retailers will charge for this service if you don't purchase from them, which i personally think is entirely fair!

good luck with your running when you get sorted! hope this info helps.

CHERITON.

wet test said I needed a neutral shoe... gait analysis says otherwise, i overpronate a lot with my right foot and slightly less with my left.

Believe it or not getting your gait analysed is a darn site easier than doing the wet test

I've found all this "wet test" thing quite an interesting read. I'd like to get my gait analysed and make sure I've got the right size of shoe. I've only been running a short while. First I was just using my old tatty trainers but I found I got really bad shin splints so I invested in some Asics and this has helped a lot.

Where would I go to have my gait analysed? Is there a list of proper running shops anywhere? I'm in Edinburgh on Thursday so thought I might be able to find one there. Are you talking about normal sports shops like JJB or are there specialist shops out there that I don't know about??

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Definately not a shop like JJB, there are specialist running shops which put you on a treadmill with a few different pairs of shoe and work out one to suit your needs. Not sure about Edinburgh but I'm sure someone will.

How about http://www.runandbecome.com/html/edinburgh.htm

Granty, thanks for the link. I'll bob in there tomorrow and have a look see. Been to their website and it looks just the job.

You're welcome, I thought the same when I read the website and I've heard of this shop before.

Thanks Jason... interesting stuff. I'm using Asics at the moment and they were brilliant up until the start of the week.

I'll see what the shop in Edinburgh says tomorrow and take it from there.

Thanks again mate

Would recommend Run and Become as well, have worked with them in the past and they are a lovely bunch who know their stuff. Be prepared to spend up to an hour in the shop though as they like to take their time to get it right.
