Smile Running time & distance

I have started to run.

Today I did 15mins on a treadmill at my local gym and covered 2.42kms.

This was my third go at running and I could probably have done more.

Should I take it easier to start with or should I push myself right from the beginning.

All comments welcomed... well nearly all lol

Dean

Thumbs up

firstly welcome to the forum !

start slowly and gradually build up the distances you run ,too much too soon is a recipe for injury lay off because of the pain you'll be suffering.

There are plenty of training schedules about if you want to follow them

Most of all enjoy yourself !!

good luck with the training

Agree with Cheriton, build up gradually over a period of time. Too much too soon is a sure way to significantly increase injury.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on starting to run. When time/conditions allow, have a go at running outside too, I can barely stand to use a treadmill anymore, outside runs are far easier for me

Not really got the experience to advise you on how to go about it as I'm a beginner too but just wanted to say welcome to the forum and stick at the running, you'll see results in no time.

I was advised to stick to a distance until I was comfortable with it and then increase it by about 10%. Of course I completely ignored the advice once I started to feel reasonably fit.

Smile

Thanks for the comments and encouragement.

I have run for 15 mins on a treadmill this week 3 times and will do again tomorrow.
I am running at 10.5 kms an hour.
Next week I aim to up it by another 5 mins if I can.

I really hope to build the distance up gradually.

Dean

I read somewhere that when you can run for about 40 minutes you could start considering finding a local running club; it might seem a long way to go at the moment but you'd be surprised at how quickly you can get fit. I'm waiting until it gets warmer.

Acheived 20 mins run time today

I set a target this week of 20 mins running time.
I am pleased to say I did it.

I found the run not too bad at all.
The only problem I had was a thumping headache at the end.
It is still with me 2 hours later.

Any reason for this? Does it happen after a run?
I am assuming I need to take in more fluids?

Dean

Hi Dean

Great result.

It may have been down to lack of fluid, that was what I thought of initially...
