Jason... I get ya! A big thanks for clearing that up. I'll give it a go next time I go out (tomorrow night) and see how I get on... Cheers.

Cheriton, never apologise for having a sense of humour... no matter how stupid it is!

JT, your schedule sounds fine btw... you won't be overdoing it (if you are you'll soon feel it!) I'd say you'd be fine to enter a 5k now, you don't need to be able to run the lot non-stop!

As for getting into a rythm, it'll come with time - It still takes me between 10-30mins to settle into a really comfortable pace.

Just finished my run (and had a shower and a cup of tea)...

Really tried to concentrate on my breathing tonight. I couldn't get the 2 in/3 out thing. I don't know whether my steps are too short or my breaths too big but I was doing about 5 paces before I was ready to breathe out??

However.. on the way back I really got into a rhythm. I wasn't particularly concentrating on it but I just opened my stride a bit (to try and beat my PB) and got into a really good pace. I found the run back really enjoyable and felt full of energy.

The last mile (it was a 2.4 mile run) felt fantastic... (BTW I didn't beat my PB but I'm not fussed - there's always next time)

I'm going to try and get that pace earlier when I go out on Thursday night.

I'll keep ya posted.

(Thanks for the comments Richard, I've heard of a 5K race in March and I'm thinking of having a go at it just to treat it as an experience..)

The reason you might not have done so well on the way out would probably be you not being settled in your run, but on the way back you are warmed up and HR etc will have settled, so bare that in mind when you set off tomorrow.

I used to count in for 3 and out for 2.

Well, thanks for all your breathing advice. I did a 5K tonight (only the third time I've attempted this distance) and managed it in 29.40 which I was really chuffed with.

I was more pleased with the rhythm I managed to get going and also the fact that I did the "turn around" bit without stopping. I ran about 2.6 miles of it without stopping...

I've got an easy 2.4 miles on Saturday then out on the pop...

This running lark ain't so bad is it?

MMmmmmmm, runner's high! Quite comparable to pie or chocolate! I had the euphoric high on tuesday, though in contrast yesterdays run was a real drag

No comparison in by book. Runner's high... the drug you can't buy!
