Question Questions, questions and more questions

Hi all,

the running is going well and today managed a 5k run and felt brilliant. However getting horrendous blisters on the inside arch of my right foot. Is this down to the way I run and would visiting a specialist running shop help me??? Also where can I find out where my local running shop is please? How much are a decent pair of running trainers?

Next questions on my list is to do with my training. At the moment I am alternating running outside and gym work. What other exercises/weight training should I be doing to help improve my running performance and how often?

Hope someone can help me please with all this information! Thank you!!!

Spencer

Hi Spencer

The blisters could be due to a number of things... socks, shoes (size or design), running style... do you wear proper running socks? They are pricey but are worth it.

To find your local running shop you could simply google 'running shops + where you live'

You can pay anything from £60 to £100 for a good pair of runners, but don't be sold up to spending more than you need. You should have a proper gait analysis by someone who knows what they are doing and who are going to sell you the correct shoe for your running style and fit.

Without knowing what or how much training you are actually doing I can't make any further suggestions on other exercise etc

Sounds to me like you're doing great though, if you've done a 5K that you are pleased with

Hi
thanks for the advice. Going to my nearest running shop next week for a gait analysis and some running socks!

At the moment I'm just running 3 miles outside and in the gym doing 5k on the treadmill along with sit ups and cross trainer.

I would suggest asking one of the trainers in the gym to help you build a plan to fit in with your running and help you improve. I did this last year in the build up for my first marathon and found the adivce from the staff in the gym very helpful.
