You've been speaking to Pedestrian haven't you Lol!

It's true though I have to admit... for most people you're not going to go far wrong with just getting out there and running! Even when new memebers come on the forum and ask how often they should be resting, or what training schedule they should have - they could just as easily go out for a run, come back when they're tired.. and do teh same each day, and have a day off if they need to. lol.

Another good post rev... always find it a pleasure to read factual sciencey type stuff

I've been waiting for someone to agree on that point, Rev. Thanks

Slimming companies such as rosmary collin's where you win certificates for losing the most weight in the week ('slimmer of the week') are adding to this delusion.

To be honest I'm not the best person to ask about weight loss - I'm eating a lot more now to maintain my weight steady with all this running. I suggest that if you are going to look into science of anything and do not understand it then I suggest you be wary. Very often with health, nutrition and exercise (including running) people overcomplicate things with science unecessarily and it is very unhelpful - especially so when in reality they are not really telling you anything of substance. For example, i've seen it a lot in articles in runnersworld where running is made out to be rocket science when it reality it is a simple activity of one foot in front of another and doesn't not need such in depth analysis. I think the same can be applied to having a healthy diet and trying to lose weight where sometimes relying on your common sense is best.
I'm like Richard, I guess I was asking for the science more than anything. Learning new things is always good

Besides, I'd agree with pretty much everything you say. I'm certainly not looking to go for weight loss (I'd blow away in the wind!), but I would like to get rid of my beer belly - and I'll be doing that through putting one foot in front of the other not through any extensive training program. I like my food too much for any dieting

Actually, fat around the waist is often the hardest to lose and needs real effort. my belly fat was the last to go (it is often the first place you put on weight, so is always the last to lose). I only lost it by going on a strict diet for a year (no dairy, no sweets, no red meat) and increasing my exercise to 2 hours a day. In hindsight, I probably over did it, but it was still difficult to lose.

That's what I'm trying to shift... I don't seem to be very fatty, like I've not got rolls of the stuff... but it's still there! I'd be interested to have my body fat ratio accurately measured to see what scope there is for me to lose weight through losing fat...
