Hello.....I'm new!

I am a regular gym goer - about 5-6 days a week - and generally active (horse keeping & Riding and Mountain biking). I have been using the X-trainer as in the past I have been a lot larger than I am now, adn so of course, running was understandably not the most enjoyable thing - even more so being an ample chested female!!

I have since lost 4.5stone and have now discovered a decent sports bra and support top - lol. And so last Saturday I ventured on the running machine for the 1st time!! I thought it might be best to start in the gym as a) it was dinging it down and b) its a bit more cushoning and level.

So, after my usual 30 mins on the x-trainer, and a 5 mins brisk walk I tried running/jogging. I lasted a lot longer than I thought I would (visions of games at school had appeared in my head so I didn't expect more than a few mins). But 10 mins later I was still bobbling away. I decided to just go at a speed that me and my legs felt comfortable with (and what we have deduced is Kilometers!!) 10.5 for 12 mins.
I have no idea if that is good or bad!?

I decided not to run again on Sun or Mon as I had ridden my horse for an hour each day and my shins were a bit sore. But I ventured on again last night (Tues) and managed to do 10 mins @ 10.5 kmph with 5 mins at 11kmph - so in total I did 15 mins and covered 3.63 Kilometers.

I don't really have any firm goals, or anything to work to, except the local 10k a lot of my mates do which is in about 12 months (just missed it!) and for something different in my workouts.

So thats me . I'm going to have a nosy about for some guides and tips - how often I should run, goals, techniques etc. But if anyone wants to throw any info at me please do - just watch the head, its been a boring day at work and I'm trying to sleep :P.

Weebie!

Hi Weebie

Welcome to RF.

Sounds to me that you are doing just fine, just increase it little by little so you don't injure yourself.

Just one thing if you are going to take up running ensure you have the right running shoes as this will help keep you injury free, you can go to a specialist running shop and they will give you a gait analysis and work out what type of shoe will be best for you.

Oh and why wait another whole year to enter a race enter one for in a few months time and use it as a goal, go on I dare you

TT

Well, I am considering doing the 5K Race for life. IF I can persuade a mate to do it with me. That way I can wobble along with someone else Lot less embarrassing for a first outing!

You have nothing to be embarrassed about, there will be hundreds of women doing a RFL for the the first time too feeling probably just like you.

You will absolutely love it

Welcome to the forum!

You should enter RFL whether your friends is doing it or not - going to a proper race is great fun and RFL always seems to get good reviews.

Sounds like you are doing well, sounds like your doing better than me and ive been running a couple of months now but not getting very far. I would say 3.63km in 15 mins is good. I ran for 20 mins today and only covered 3.47km at pace of 10.0. I normally like you increase speed but have been to knackered off late. Keep up the good work you put me to shame !!
