Surface Cross Country Duration 55m 00s
Distance 12 KM (Approx)
12km/7.46mi
+20ºC thin, high clouds, gentle breeze, dry paths.

Planned to run as I felt like.
Weird session... Sometimes fast because I felt great, sometimes slow as I felt heavy. Not worried about being a bit tired as Saturday and Sunday, due to WCCC commitments, will be easy.

How I Felt OK Weather Fair
Type Of Session Running - Fartlek Session Route
Surface Cross Country Duration 43m 00s
Distance 10 KM (Approx)
10km/6.22mi
+16ºC, some clouds, gentle breeze, dry paths.

Didn't really feel like going fast but after 15mins warm up just had a go.
Never really felt like going fast but it wasn't that bad. Around 22mins Fartlek and I am happy that there's no major pain

Breathing still slowly improving.

Type Of Session Running - Easy Run Route
Surface Cross Country Duration 51m 00s
Distance 10 KM (Approx)

Legs a bit heavy and breathing still recovering.

How I Felt OK Weather Fair
Type Of Session Running - Regular Run Route
Surface Cross Country Duration 1h 01m 00s
Distance 14 KM (Approx)
14km/8.70mi
+15ºC, sunny with high clouds, gentle breeze, dry paths.

Legs feeling yesterday's training.
Nevertheless, progressively faster with a first timed km in 4m36s and a later 4m07s.
Slowed down in the last 2 miles as "suggested" by right calves.

Training Session Tuesday 23rd March 2010, 16:47
How I Felt OK Weather Fair
Type Of Session Running - Fartlek Session Route
Surface Cross Country Duration 52m 00s
Distance 12 KM (Approx)
12km/7.46mi
+11ºC, thin clouds, getting dark, gentle breeze. Dry paths.

Warm up of just over 15mins - Fartlek with the fast sections never shorter than 2mins.
Twice timed 1Ks. First 3m41s and second 3m37s. Avoiding dog walkers and because of very tight corners some 5 seconds can be taken off those times would the paths be free but still I was surprised at how "slow" I am. I was quite comfortable all the time and could have kept such a pace for long but going faster over that distance? Hard...
I need speedwork!

How I Felt Tired Weather Humid
Type Of Session Running - Long Run Route
Surface Mixed Duration 1h 45m 00s
Distance 23 KM (Approx)
23.2km/14.42mi
+14ºC, cloudy (odd drop of rain), dry ground.

Felt ok until almost halfway and then that tiredness again... But I wonder now if it has something to do with the sudden rise in temperature as I had some trouble breathing today.
Might just be the body adapting.
The knee complained a bit but nothing bad.
Very tired legs in the last 50mins.

Still tired legs but not as bad as in the past few days.

Training Session Thursday 18th March 2010, 14:38
How I Felt Tired Weather Fair
Type Of Session Running - Tempo Run Route
Surface Mixed Duration 45m 00s
Distance 10 KM (Approx)
10km/6.22mi
13ºC !!!! Sunny, breezy. In park almost no mud.

The goal was to to 2x2km/1.24mi at half-marathon pace (this should be somewhere between 7m30s and 7m40s) with 850m/0.53mi easy in between.
Finished the first in 7m29s but then felt that same, strange lack of energy as yesterday.
Made my way back home.
Still unsure about running a half-marathon on Sunday.
The pace felt ok (maybe still a bit fast) but the legs need to recover.

Good news, no pain nor discomfort in the knee!

0ºC, clouds/bits of sky. Sidewalks covered in ice, snow in the park.

Again easy. For the first time in more than a week I didn't feel pain in the knee.
Just "felt it there".
Woke up at 5.35am and couldn't get back to sleep so eventually ran early and it was beautiful.
So many geese flying West!

Easy again. No real pain in the knee except for a few seconds around 28mins. Then better again. Just feel "something" there. Much better than last week's limping.

How I Felt Injured Weather Fair
Type Of Session Running - Long Run Route
Surface Mixed Duration 2h 20m 00s
Distance 30 KM (Approx)
30km/18.65mi
+2ºC, more and more clouds gathering, cold breeze.
Dry ground.

Started very well, and passed halfway in the planned 1h10m (actually 1h10m01s) so it was perfect as I was keeping my foot on the brakes all the time, wanting to go faster.
The knee started to hurt a bit from around 35 minutes but nothing too bad. After halfway I started accelerating and felt great.
Around 1h43m though, the knee got so much worse that I slowed down radically. From then on it was around 5mi of pain. If I had been close to home I would have stopped the run there and then but I had all that way to get back.
In the end, surprise... 6 minutes from home I stopped to give directions to a driver and when I started running again the pain was almost gone...
I dunno... But I will take at least two days easy now.

Training Session Wednesday 10th March 2010, 10:59

Lots of mud (now starting to harden - freezing) in the park but sidewalks clear.
Took it very easy for the first 35 minutes and then accelerated progressively.

Calves better! Surprising but good

Afterwards: 3x(20abs+15press-ups)

Surface Road Duration 35m 00s
Distance 8 KM (Approx)
8.1km/5.03mi
-4ºC but sidewalks 99% clear of snow and ice.
Progressively faster after an easy first 9 minutes.
Calves a bit slow to warm up and still stiff but not too bad.

7th km - 3m57s (6m21s/mi pace)
8th km - 3m44s (6m03s/mi pace)

These last two kms felt easy. I was comfortable throughout, with only the tired calves complaining.

Afterwards: 25 press-ups

How I Felt OK Weather Snowing
Type Of Session Running - Regular Run Route
Surface Cross Country Duration 43m 00s

Mud and somesnow/ice in park.

Took it easy. Calves still tired but a lot better.

Training Session Sunday 7th March 2010, 15:09
How I Felt Tired Weather Snowing
Type Of Session Running - Long Run Route
Surface Mixed Duration 1h 25m 00s
Distance 20 KM (Approx)
20km/12.43mi
Started at +1ºC, finished at -1ºC.
Some snow and bits of ice in park but nothing too much.
Snow showers and a cool east wind.

The plan was to warm up for 4km/2.49mi and then get up to Marathon-pace (I consider this the pace of my PB - 4m08s/km - 6m39s/mi) for 12km/7.46mi and then the same 4km/2.49mi easier.

From the start I felt the calves tight and heavy again... All the rest is good, quads are strong, lungs working well...
When I got to the "accelerating point" I really struggled to get into Marathon-pace. Actually it took me about 9 minutes to feel reasonably well.
From then on I worked well and, apart from the calves all was going perfectly.

I ended up covering the "fast 12km/7.46mi" in 48m50s which is a pace of 4m04s/km - 6m33s/mi and slightly better than expected.
The way back home was painful...
I don't know what's going on with my calves but I really consider taking a few days very easy and pay no attention to mileage...

Training Session Saturday 6th March 2010, 16:00
How I Felt Heavy Legged Weather Fair
Type Of Session Running - Regular Run Route
Surface Mixed Duration 49m 00s
Distance 10 KM (Approx)
10km/6.22mi
-2ºC, just a breeze, cloudy.
Some snow and ice for about 3.2km/2mi.

Calves still sore... Good thing I didn't race.
Took it very easy.
Reconsidering the long run option for tomorrow...

Afterwards: 3x(20abs+10press-ups)

How I Felt OK Weather Snowing
Type Of Session Running - Regular Run Route
Surface Mixed Duration 1h 08m 00s
Distance 15 KM (Approx)
15.2km/9.45mi
-3ºC. Windy and with two long snow showers.
Snow covered paths. Very difficult to keep eyes open when the snow was coming down. Being blown that way by the wind it hurt the eyes a lot on impact. During the first shower, in 15 minutes it snowed 2cm/0.8in!

Legs still a bit tired. Won't race tomorrow, it would be a very silly thing to do.

0ºC, a few clouds, slight breeze.
Tired legs and calves a bit sore.
Only today I found out that there will be a 12.1km/7.52mi race here on saturday... A bit too late probably as I don't think I will be rested until then. We'll see...

Afterwards: 3x(20abs+10press-ups)

How I Felt OK Weather Fair

Fair, some snow flakes at the end. A good breeze. +4ºC.
Heavy legs, no wonder after two nights "sleeping" rough.
Surprised by the speed. It's a good sign now that the tracks are free of snow... It seems that the tough plodding for all those white days is showing results.

Afterwards: 20 press-ups
