THIS INPUT IS FOR THURSDAY 31 MAY.
A cool day with a cold breeze,but enjoyed a walk/jog session of 7KM in 54.13 which
averaged about 7.45/KM pace.Got to half way in 28.40 so increased the jog lengths on return.
No problem with back after warm up. Neck still a little stiff but improving.

This entry is for TUES 29 May.
Did a couple of KMs walk to warm up on track.Then a session of 1Km/200m/2x300m/200m
with about 2-3mins rest between each.In 6.09/1.02/1.40/1.33/58.Pretty slow.
Felt very tired from previous few days training,but at least I am getting both feet off the ground together for the intervals.
HAVE A REST DAY,JIM-you need it.

Visited my osteopath this morning for more neck and back treatment,sems to be helping.
Around mid-day felt the urge to get out,lovely warm and sunny day.Wearing a new pair of shoes,Brooks Adrenaline GTS7,felt good for first spell in them.Walked the first KM of undulating tarmac course and then got into a fartlek system of fast walk/variable distance jogs.Managed to get as far as 1500M for one jog without the back/neck playing up.
Finished the total session in 78m45s(7m52s/KM pace),a big improvement on a similair session last week.
Tomorrow will restrict it to a few short intervals at our vets club meet.

Up at 6am to drive my grandson about 100KM to play basketball.
Feeling rather weary from yesterday's effort but got out for an easy 1hr walk along the lovely waterfront at Gosford,NSW.
The young fella's team had two good wins in the tournament today so all well pleased.

Decided to try out my "fitness" by running in local road relay(4x5KM).
Not fit enough to quqlify even for older vets team so ran first leg as an individual.
Got to 1KM marker in 5.58,feeling terrible,hung onto pace till 1.5KM in 9.00 then died.
16.22 at halfway point and dragged in to clock 35.43.
I suppose considering my injury problems and that this was my first attempt since early January to race I should be satisfied.With no effect on my back/neck problems it will encourage me to lift my pace a bit more from the walk level.

Visited oesteopath again early morning for treatment to neck which has been very sore and stiff for last two rest days.
Treatment eased things somewhat so went for a 10KM fartlek walk session with numerous short/ faster walk and jog sections injected throughout the distance.
Out to 5KM turn in 42m42s and finished in 83m57s(avg 8m24s/KM pace).
Quite a warm 22C and sunny day,low humidity,best weather for a while.
General fitness definitely improving.

Felt pretty crook in the morning,with sore back(buttock) and stiff kneck.Possibly reaction to osteopathy yesterday.
Got myself out in arvo and was amazed to feel quite good,relative to recent sessions.
Got myself to try a modified fartlek session,of walk/jog ranging over 100-500m intervals.
Both kneck and buttock improved with distance run.Over a bit of a mental hurdle,maybe I can try somewhat longer jog distances in future? Will se how I come off this session tomorrow.

Had an osteopath treatment in morning for stiff neck.Good stuff.One hour sleep after.
In arvo did an EASY 6KM walk on undulating cycle path,still recovering from Saturday's race walk.Felt good in back,maybe will try an extended jog tomorrow.

I was thinking of a REST DAY but decided to go and have an EASY WALK at local CC runs.
The course was hilly,rocky trail and very rough underfoot,I felt very tired in first KM or so,falling some 100m behind the young lady leading the walk.
When passed at 2KM by another couple I tucked in behind for a while but they dropped me some 50m behind as they caught the leader at 3KM turn point.25.14 at the turn I worked hard to catch and pass the two ladies but could not catch the leading man,who finished 50m or so ahead of me.
All in all,turned out to be a VERY HARD RACE,not an easy day as better sense would have suggested I needed.I would love to run the course when injury better.
Rest Day tomorrow?

Felt ok,no back problems except going up steep inclines.

At 10am did a gym/wt session for strengthening of glutes,hamstrings and quads.Helps to support back.
At 3pm did a 5KM walk with interspersed 8x100 100m jog stride-outs,total time of 41.14.Felt ok in strides but still very aware of back.

Coming back from back injury so just WALKING at present.
Steady 10KM walk(8.55/KM pace) on tarmac undulating cycle path.
No problems with injury at such slow pace.
