Have to say I had an absolutely fantastic run, enjoyed almost every minute of it. Took a completely different route I've never been before. Mapped it out on Gmaps Pedometer and transferred it over to my Garmin... first run I've ever been out and been naviagted by the garmin as to where to go, I ended up running through some little hamlets in the middle of nowhere and down some singletrack roads that are obviously rarely used. Fantastic!!

Best bit of all, I did pay any attention to my pace, but just started off comfortably and enjoyed my run and feeling like I was mkaing good progress, feeling pretty strong in places too! I was mindful that I was doing 16miles without food/gels/drink so wondered what would happen after an hour and a half when glycogen stores ran low...

Anyways, 1hr 18mins in I was starting to feel a little tired and lacking energy so thought I'd start a new lap to see what pace I was doing before and after I started to feel the strain. I pushed on not wanting to ruin my overall pace for the run.

Anyways, got home, plugged the Garmin in, and stared at the screen feeling absolutely over the moon!

Overall: 16.04mi in 1:43:18 - 6:26/mi pace, 155bpm (78% MHR)
Lap 1: 11.97mi @ 6:33/mi, 152bpm
Lap 2: 4.07mi @ 6:04/mi, 166bpm

The run alone, just the route & scenery was absolutely fantastic, but to achieve an average pace only slightly behind my target pace for the marathon, but at a lower heart rate than goal Marathon HR, without drink/gels and proper rest... i'm starting to feel more and more confident about what I might be able to achieve on Edinburgh Marathon race day (avoiding any major catastrophe's that is!).

Had to stop at Petrol Station at around 10miles for a toilet stop, stomach in agony and starting to cramp up. Otherwise everything went fine and I jogged round quite happily! Perhaps a little tired/underfueled towards the end.
