Sweat vests
I bought some Sweat vests after seeing an ad in a recent runners mag - claiming they help with weight loss etc etc. I havent used one on a run yet, but tried one out when i went cycling last night, and i was dripping by the time i'd finished.
Anyone had experiences good or bad whilst running?

i saw the advert aswell and was very tempted, although i was slightly concerned that it would be dehydration/ water loss, so i look forward to hearing your results

Running is like mouthwash; if you can feel the burn, it's working.

It was quite weird. I wasnt really going full pelt on my cycle, but after 30 mins, i just felt under the vest, and i was dripping. My face/neck however, not so. My forehead was barely sweating. I made sure I drank lots before and after, thats the only issue im concerned about obviously.
As for comfort, it took a while to get used to. Im not sure how well it would feel running, thats my only concern. I'll have to try one and see perhaps.
On the packet it says once used, take off and throw away. But being a cheapskate, ive cleaned mine off from yesterday and dried it out ready for the next one. 9.99 for a pack of 8....

so they make you sweat out fat do they?
waste of time, you'll lose weight by sweating all of that water out. Then you'll drink loads to hydrate yourself properly and promptly put all of the weight back on.
OK if you are a jockey or boxer trying to lose weight quickly for a race/fight but bugger all use for anything else.
You could have saved money and run in a bin bag instead!!

As Shaun says - waste of money IMO.
You will weigh less through dehydration.

I think I read into these a bit, and they claim that the production of sweat requires energy, using something like 0.5kcal for 1g sweat... so 1litre of sweat = 500kcals (not quoting their exact figures here, just guessing from memory).
I'm not entirely convinced, though mildly intrigued to see if users see any benefit beyond fluid loss. Keep us updated with your findings!

If you were training for competition where it's going to be very hot, then they would be of some use as they will promote overheating - allowing you to cope better with them.
I'm sure I've read about their use when teams prepare for international competition - before they might acclimatise.

Went running in one tonight, didnt like it. Felt very heavy after about 20 minutes. Strangely, didnt sweat as much as when I went cycling.
Wont be running in these again.
