New Product Feedback

Hey guys,

I am 'scratching an itch' and developing a new running armband product myself as I've been unsatisfied with armbands I've tried. I like some of the armbands out there and have bought previously Nike, Nathan etc but they're all strap based with plastic windows.

My dream armband is comfortable, is more sleeve than strap and doesn't bother with plastic windows but focuses on sweat control and function. I came up with a design and made a prototype - would anyone be interested in this type of product? I am trying to figure out if this is something people want.

The first prototype is can be seen below:

Would really appreciate your thoughts.

Looks like a good idea. What size of phone are you basing the prototype on?

I think the best idea would be to fit the phones most people carry i.e 4.5-5.5 inch (iPhone 5 etc) but I probably should make it big enough for 6" devices since that appears to be the size most people are going to buy.

Will keep everyone updated on my progress.

Finally got the prototype photoshoot done, check out the armband here: legendwearable.com

I'm launching a Kickstarter soon but PM me if you want and I will mail you a product sample to test on your next run.

It's taken a year of my life but I'm finally ready to announce the launch of my startup company, Legend. The first product is a running armband that we want to be the best. It's on Kickstarter now: http://buff.ly/1SUzcKZ so I'd be grateful if you could share the campaign

Just finished a half marathon here in Hong Kong (and got a PB!) and I noticed a few folks with armbands that you call fast (but not elite). I think that's the thing people mis-understand with armbands; it's a product designed to help you train with music and through GPS record your run for analysis.

Eh? What is there to misunderstand? I think everybody knows that's what they're for. What else could they be for? Keeping a small part of your arm warm?

What I mean is that some folks look down on the product - perhaps all running accessories - from a purist's perspective. Whilst elite's will probably wear a GPS watch at most, for everyone else, accessories (like armbands) really do help.

I have to admit I'm not and am unlikely to be an armband wearer. I clicked on the link expecting to see something different from the norm and was disappointed!
Even in the main photo it looks bulky, and oh... there IS a window... and it looks like every other arm strap thing I've seen.

Still it's no mean feat starting up a company to make such things, good luck!

I can assure you it's not bulky - it weighs just 1.8 grams and is really thin (0.25 cm). We actually designed a prototype without the window but after testing, realized that folks really to do want to access their device and so added the window.

If you want to try it, I can ship you one. PM if you're interested.

Thanks but I really wouldn't use one, I don't listen to music or take my phone when I run, and I use a garmin.
The only time my phone comes with me is long runs when I have to carry a pack for water/food/windproof anyway.

I have to say the latest Garmin's look awesome. I've never worn a watch but I'm seriously tempted to get one (would miss my music however).
