I use a fist bottle. I find it gets a little sweaty and annoying some times but then I try and forget about it and that usually works. I tend to take it on all runs simply because if im going to run a half then it comes with me and I dont want any surprise on race day. I can also use the time to get used to drinking on the move. I dont find you need to grip it either it just slides over the finger then stays there with the natural shape my fingers take. I also have an Ironman 2 bottle belt with pouch but really didnt like the sloshing of a half full bottle.

This stops your hands sweating, gives even weight distribution. Even improves your speed as you try to get back before anyone sees you

For long runs I use something similiar to this.
It holds two bottles and has a pouch for my mobile phone and keys. I can also carry gels or energy sachets for mixing with water while on really long runs.
Very comfy, the one I have is from Camelbak.
On shorter runs on warm days I use my free RNLI fist bottle that I got for the Edinburgh Marathon. When I first got it I almost gave it away because I didnt think I would need it. Glad I didnt now because it has come in handy for short runs where I don't need to carry lots of water with me but still need something so I can keep cool.

Nice one Mo, but I think it more suited for the beach!

All possible combinations were tried on that fateful run ... when it did open, what seemed like gallons of water appeared from the valve almost drowning me!

The trouble I find with a fist bottle is that the liquid inside it gets so warm from your hand

stick it in the freezer beforehand in it'll melt as you run... though you might end up with a drinks bottle that's too cold to carry
Still have my camelback flashflo if anyone wants to take it off me for £15... Of course I'll steralise it first!

Now you mention it, I had noticed that myself! I tried putting ice cubes in the bottle but they just melt and everything heats up again!
Will stick with my diving belt for longer runs

I just didn't really enjoy using it to be honest!
I bought it because I don't really like carrying anything when I'm running and it sits on your waist leaving your hands free, it has little strap things you can pull/tighten as you're running to make sure it doesn't bounce up and down... the mouthpiece has a clip to attatch to your shirt which is a bit annoying to position at first, but once you've clipped it in place you soon forget about it and it's fine... but I can still tell I;m carrying extra weight!
Nowadays the only time I take a drink with me on runs is my weekend long runs which my dad comes along on his bike for, in which case he carries a drinks bottle for me

I take no fluid on a shorter run but over 10 miles I take a hydration pack along. Needs and ipod with it though to drown out the noise of sloshing water.

Having walked the end of last weekends run in the heat I ordered one of them belt bottle things. Took it for a test run today and it made quite a difference being able to hydrate during the run.
I can't hear much sloshing over my breathing

Squint... if you've got a hydration pack then squeeze all the air out before you start running. Not only will it get rid of the noise but it'll make it a lot easier to carry too!
