Mapmyrun. Accurate?

Hi All,

Does anyone know how accurate map my run is?

Its just that I recently started using an app on the iphone called Runkeeper and there are wide variations in distance measurement between it and mapmyrun.

Not sure who to believe now.

Thanks,

Mark.

I had the iphone run keeper a bit erratic at times...but find that mapmyrun is usually the same as my Garmin...which is spot on.. one run according to the runkeeper I was running 2 min miles

Try mapometer too.

mapmyrun is good as far as I can tell. I recently did a check out of interest, with my brother in law on a bike next to me while I ran. The 10 mile route I mapped on mapmyrun came out exactly the same on his handheld GPS he carried on his bike.

mapmyrun will be pretty accurate, give or take a smidge for instances like corners where you might run along the inside of the bend and mapmyrun will measure according to the middle of the road - or roundabouts where mapmyrun used to (not sure if it still does) go clockwise round the roundabouts (as a car would), whereas on foot you may be turning right and just cross the road (i.e. go anti-clockwise).

If there are BIG inaccuracies, I would lean towards the mapmyrun measurement.

Glad to hear this, Runkeeper had cut about .4 of a mile from my 5 mile route. I would'nt have minded so much if it had added a bit on!!!

I looked at Mapmyrun when I first got my Garmin, it seemed to be about 2k out, I think it was telling my the 5k I was running according to Garmin, was only 3k, I think. So I didn't bother with it.

I'm not very patient at doing squiggly mapping type things though so maybe I cut a few corners. Either it or myself may have improved, as I just tried the 1k warm up bit of a recent run and it came up reasonably accurate on MMR.

My Garmin has been pretty accurate in every race I've run, so I just use it.

I've found mapmyrun to be pretty accurate - I measured the same routes when I got my Garmin and the distances were pretty similar.

The Asics route finder is pretty good and I find it more accurate than mapmyrun, although as it is not a UK based site the measurements are in km, not miles. No problem doing an exact conversion though, it's easy. I personally find 'My Asics' a great free application.

It also automatically draws in the corners as opposed to mapmyrun where you have to route the corners by hand. Each to own I guess.

I've been using mapmyrun for ages, I've just started using RunKeeper and what Map My Run told me I did in km in 25 minutes, Run Keeper has told me I can do the same number in miles in 25 minutes.

I don't know which to trust!
