Well done to everyone else who finished, was a bit toasty warm wasn't it??
Clocked 2.48.44 which I was a bit disappointed with at first. On reflection, I'm quite proud having read and heard all the stories from others who had significantly worse problems than I did.
Went through halfway in 76.57, bang on 2.34 pace and was good until mile 18 when my calf muscles went into spasm. Had to walk on two brief occasions, at which point the crowd noise was deafening as they encouraged me to get running again. Managed a steady shuffle as my legs switched between cramp and spasm!! Just about picked up the pace over the last mile and dipped under 2.50.
Had a couple of truly enormous blisters and my calves were still twitching and going into spasm the next morning!!!
Proud that I did it but can't say I enjoyed the last 8 miles!! Will try again in 5 years or so, when I'm a bit older and wiser......

Does that mean you knocked a full hour off your previous marathon PB? That''s a mighty fine run Sensible, given the steamy conditions. Very well done!
Cheers!

Well that was fun !
All was going well (ish) for the first half or so of the race except that I went off too conservatively due to the heat and my groin concerns. However as I felt ok from about 8m I picked up the pace a tad and was feeling ok when I ran past Cousin Oz at 13m.(Can't look bad in front of an Aussie after all!)
Was still ok going past SWMBO at 15m though by then an old right hip injury had started to raise its head.
I then met Trin on the course and after a quick chat and wishing each other luck I moved on, still thinking I might post a half decent time.MORON!
The right hip gradually slowed me down so I was glad in a way to miss SWMBO at about 20m. Fortunately I spotted Waltzing Matilda before she spotted me at 22m so in time honoured fashion I put on a show going past her before succumbing to my hip again.
After that it all went downhill rather fast as I suffered cramps in both my calves all the way to the end resulting in me running on my heels to prevent the cramp from being too painful. Must have been an odd sight.
I got there in the end...behind Sally Gunnell but ahead of Gordon Ramsey.
Great crowd support as ever but the heat!!!!!!!! I'm a cool weather runner and can't bear the sun!
Never again...well not until next time anyway!!
My time...see elsewhere.....

Well done to you all that ran on Sunday.
I know I might see this from a different angle from you seasoned runners, but you should all stop beating yourselves up.
It was warm enough just watching.Everything I`ve read about this years FLM tells me that it was hard going for just about everyone who entered.
Start congratulating yourselves for doing the best you could in the conditions as they were.
And make sure you all have a celebration drink or two this week................

Well I would Dave except I haven't got the excuse of the weather... it was pretty much perfect conditions for me. But the advantage I had in the weather was taken away by my body letting me down when it really counted
Sensible....That was a great run, well done!

Totally agree with dave, I think you should all be extremely proud getting to the finishing in what sounds like harsh conditions.

Surprised myself by actually managing to consume the two energy gels rather than spilling them down me!! Fat lot of good they were when I started cramping up...
As Dave said, I was beating myself up at first as I didn't run as quick as I wanted, but on reflection, I'm proud that I finished in the time that I did. I could have dropped out, but like some of you others, I gritted my teeth and got through it. Maybe I'm stronger mentally than I realised?
