Next Champs race is this Sunday...Broadlands 1/2m....it'll be a relief from the recent long runs I've been doing!!

So on Saturday evening SWMBO was on the phone to her mother who cheerily told her that gales were forecast for Sunday morning.........
......woke up Sunday and discovered that the MIL wasn't pulling my plonker....it was real baby weather...wet and very windy!
Having reached the village hall start point it wasa case of deciding what to wear....it was raining still but not a downpour...more of a drizzle... and although windy still it was not really cold. Club vest and shorts then...but as I hate the the wind and cold ears decided to put my wooly hat on. ( Yes I know what I've said elsewhere on this point but there you go!!)
The club was well represented...more of later....it being a club champs race after all.
Off we went..on time I think...and thankfully the first mile was downhillish and wind behind. Having started midfield I was able to gradually pick runners off and get into my stride....legs were sore and as ever these days I was concerned about my groins. Mile after undulating mile passed...puddles being dodged as best as possible...and checking my watch every mile I felt a good time was on the cards...depending on what the remainder of the course was like...and what the weather did.
Around about the 6 mile point the course had an out and back section allowing runners to see each other....the leaders were charging back as I was still on the out section....if only I thought! As I did my back section I saw all bar one of our club's runners on the out section..including SWMBO who seemed to be running at her planned pace at that time...and Leece smiling as ever!
At 11 miles I thought I had to pick up the pace if I was to get a good time so dug in and changed gear...well that lasted about 1/2 a mile before I had to drop down to the steady pace again...just as well as the final mile or so was nasty...no protection from the wind and a long drag back up hill.
As I turned into the short finishing straight I saw the clock ..."Oh Dear" I thought...or something like that...and something similar as I crossed the line in 1hr 32'04" ....but then I checked my watch....I'd only started it as I 'd crossed the start line..which apparently had taken me 4 seconds so .....
....my new 1/2m PB is 1hr 32'00"!! At last! Beaten my 3.5 year old pb by 26 seconds (on my watch)....and was 32nd overall..out of 220ish I reckon.
What would I have done without the wind? Who knows?
SWMBO struggled a bit in the end and was a few mins off her pb but............
....still picked up a trophy as part of the winning LRR Vet Ladies team of 3.
One more to go..Bungay Marathon on 6/4.

Fantastic Steve, you must be really chuffed with that, and swmbo too receiving a trophy, the weather yesterday was no one's friend that was for sure.

Think I forgot to say the most important thing...that is that in terms of the club champs I was 2nd LRR man home and SWMBO was 3rd LR lady home.....
....and we now BOTH can't be caught
We Are The Champions....but a bit embarrassing as we are Chair and Secretary of the club!
