I'm aiming for atleast 45 next time! lol, i was quite far back when the race started and so i couldn't really stretch my legs till after the first Km. I really enjoyed the competitiveness of it though, its the first of many races hopefully!

Good job KP! 38:28 is great!

I better get my time on the board then! 39:38 from Aug 07. I'm hoping to do a 10k in June so I should be able to improve on that if my legs ever recover from London!

i like the 2 tables Richard...good work
heres a bombshell then...now i've run a 38:28 (6:12 pace) off 6 months training...
(i have been a 6 min/miler in the past), does anyone reckon its feasible to go sub 36 with another years consistant, injury free training, thats 5:48 pace. Only 24 secs/mile quicker  This is the first time that my training has had any form of structure and i feel that theres more in the tank, even though i'll turn 41 in july...any thoughts? is it doable. I came 50th on sunday and a sub 36 would have put me in the top 20 which would be awesome...i'd be interested to hear all thoughts especially from any guys who run/have run sub 36 as they know the necessary changes in training to make such a leap...

If the training is structured and challenging, I think it's quite do-able. I've knocked over 5 mins of my 10k PB over the past 12months after joining a club (42:50 >> 37:18) and I'm still clinging onto hope that I might manage a sub 36 by the end of 2008.

cheers Richard, i think it's doable too and have learn't the hard way that 'consistency is king'.... i've been doing 3 weeks of progressively harder running followed by 1 week of recovery runs and plan on building my mileage up from around 20/wk to 30/wk after my next block. i've always been a bit too keen in the past and only now see recovery as being just as important as the training...what does your training plan look like if you don't mind me asking? i'm always paranoid that i a) don't run enough miles/times (20/wk, 3 runs) and b)rarely run easy, its all tempo, interval or hill work (which i enjoy doing). i do my easy stuff on the bike commute. anyhow, i figure if it works for me then thats all that matters and its taken me 20 years to realise this...

My trainings been a bit sporadic as of late with races etc... but before the races started messing up my schedule, a typical week would consist of:

Monday - Gentle Swim or perhaps an easy 4.3miles
Tuesday - Club run - either hills or intervals (usually mile repeats)
Weds - 5-a-side football - 50mins outfield playing in a local league
Thurs - Club run - Long tempo (up to 8 miles)
Friday - Rest or if i'm not dead from tues-thurs, an Easy 4.3miles or cross train in gym
Saturday - Long Run (typically 12-15miles)
Sunday - Rest, or perhaps gentle swim/sauna

I'm looking at re-structuring my training after this weekends half marathon - though It's a bit hard to make sure I get enough quality sessions as I'm commited to football on weds, and club runs are tues n thurs, and I enjoy running with others, though you're kind of committed to what everyone else is doing if you want to run in a group... Also I'm committed to using the gym at least twice a week (even if it's just for a swim/sauna) (a condition of my health insurance that ensures I get free gym membership).

I'll let you know once it's changed

Jeesh, that's a lot of activity Richard. Unfortunately, running is the only exercise I get. I really should join a club because I've found it really tough to motivate myself the last 2 weeks. Since I did my 1:25 half marathon, I have found it difficult to run even 6 milers. Don't know what the hell is wrong with my body. I can't believe I have lost so much fitness in 2 weeks. I've still been doing my normal 30miles per week, but they are all incredibly difficult right now. Maybe I should just buy a bike and join a bikers' forum I know it's normal to have period where your body just isn't up for some good running, but 2 weeks seems a long time.

There's one theory that says you should leave a day for every mile raced before returning to full training again... so form a half mara that's virtually 2 weeks - plus if you've continued with your normal training you're body may still be screaming out for rest...

I don't see that I'm doing that much activity - when I say a gentle swim it usually is just 10-20 lengths, so I've usually got 2-3days of rest each week. I wish my body was capable of doing more to be honest - I don't see how the 100milers+ per week manage without becoming injured all the time!
