Racing Abroad

Has anyone raced in other countries?

Im planning a half marathon for end of Jan/ beginning of Feb and came across the Torremolinos Half. Am looking at one of the all-inclusive trips with Running Crazy.

Its either that or the Asics Watford Half.

Hmmm... Spain or Watford... you have a tough choice there

I've run the Majorca marathon and it was a club trip. We organised it through Running Crazy and it all went well.

I've also run Copenhagen marathon and did that independently, flights, hotel etc

Both trips were great but personally I would only go with a tour operator if I was going with a group, such as my running club. But then I guess if you're going to be travelling on your own it might be good to sign up with RC and socialise with the other peeps who will be running.

I've been part of club organised trips to run in Edinburgh, Dublin and Amsterdam all of which were well organised but I organised my own trips to the Chicago and Prague Marathons...more freedom that way.

Am going to try to get my current club to organise a trip abroad next year..the marathon in France where they have wine/cheese stations has a certain appeal! Can't remember the name of the race at the mo' though.

I've done a bit of research and the organised trip is working out very expensive compared to a DIY job.

Say 2 of us went and stayed for 5 nights to make a bit of a holiday out of it. Not including the race entry it would cost £358 (airport pick up, half board in 3* hotel, afterparty!).

I've just got a quote from a 4* hotel (same 5 nites, half board) for £150.

I'll find my own way to the hotel and live without the afterparty if it means I save £200!!

Is there always such a massive difference in price?

I guess that's how the tour operators make their money.

I'm sure you could have quite a party of your own with £200
