I'm with dan, I don't think it can be done unless/until we change physiologically quite significantly!

Maybe the mutant child of Hicham El Guerrouj & Svetlana Masterkova (current record holders). I seem to remember (from my history books) that Hitler got into a bit of trouble for that sort of thing!

Certainly not in the time frame you've described in the poll.

It involves every lap being run in under 45 seconds. That's a world class 400m time, when you consider that you start to see how impossible it would be. 43 seconds is a ridiculous amount of time to take off. It's not impossible, but I can't see it happening.

I reckon 2100 at the very earliest and that's with significant improvements in track conditions, shoes and training techniques in particular.

It would mean linking together 4 45 second laps. Unless we evolve dramatically, it will never be done. I think it will be a long long time 'till the record is close to 3:30, if ever.

Seeing how the record has evolved I tend to agree that 2100 is closer to the mark than anything on the poll.
