I am running. If I can I'd like to at least get to the meal on the night before. What time will it be? I'll be arriving to our holiday let in Gorton House maybe about 4pm on the Saturday and have the kids and co so logistically it might be difficult. Would be good to put some faces to names and cheer people on.

Everyone will need physical support on Sunday night - marathon running and plenty of beer makes standing quite the chore.

Time of the meal, erm I think we had it about 6:30 for the 2009 meal but we met up before hand for some cokes and lemonades
The time is open to change and we have plenty time to pick a location, if we manage to secure enough people going for a meal we can book our own room but if it ends up the same as last year (people saying they would come but closer to the time not being able to) then we will just sit in the main restaurant.
If people could submit their estimated finish time as well that would be great.

Hey Owain, great thread thanks for setting this up! I'm planning on coming up early Saturday and staying 2 nights, so myself and the wife will be up for the meal on Saturday and post-race party. My estimated finish time is 3:29:59. Cheers!
PS please tell me the tracker thing at the top is wrong and we have more than 5 months 1 week to go...

Thanks Owain. And thanks for adding me to the list. It's early days but I am hoping for 3:30. Still many months for me to re-think that. I would like to come to the meal but will probably find it a challenge and hopefully you don't need to know for definite quite yet.
I'd be interested in peoples thoughts on the event who have run it before. On the map and elevation it looks like you have a first 5 miles or so that are more kind to you. I'm also interested in how easy it is for friends and family supporting to get around the course and to the finish, on the train. And also being someone who needs the loo dozens of times before an event, any tips for that? What is the precise spot of the start line? I ask as my brother lives there and he'll know good places to hang and wee until the last minute

Fixed the countdown at the top of the first post
I think trying to get around the course on the train (without a bicycle) can be done but would require a fair amount of walking, a bike would make it faster to get from the train stations to the course.
To get to the finish line by train is possible.
The start is on Regent Road.
This year there was quite a queue for the loos but once your get on the course there are portaloos every 5 miles I think.
The start is down hill and you really need to watch you don't go off too fast, then out towards the race course is flat. Once you get past Musselburgh race course there is a slight incline for a mile or two and then its flat again. You hit the incline again on the way back towards the race course. When I say incline I mean a slight increase in gradient, you can always see the course in front of you, its never so steep all you see is a hill.
Im sure others will give more information about the course as well though.

I will be up for the meal - and I imagine that I will be absolutely gagging for a few pints Sunday afternoon/night
My aim is sub-3 hours
On the Sunday - did people drift off to shower/change or all go to the pub as gibbering sweaty wrecks (before the alcohol!).

Since when did I gain a capital R in my name (I blame SB, she has been doing it for ages I think ). The run is a coincidence, it is Hrun from Discworld
I am aiming for 3:30. Will probably prefer to do my own thing the night before, but plan to Party afterwards.*
*NB. All of the above is subject to revision without justification at any time

lol I never thought of that, honest, I'll probably revise that later. On the entry I put 3:15 as a predicted time but I'm having doubts.
Interesting to note though (i think) that men aged between 41 - 59 who've ran a Sub 3.15 Marathon in the previous 2 years get an automatic "good for age" entry to a certain other capital city marathon (Ldn), so that would be the 'dream time' still.
Looks like 3:30 is a popular goal, fingers crossed training goes well.
