Depends on the run....If I want to run a PB, then Heavy metal loon music does the trick, if just a basic training then something rocky with guitars, I particularly like MUSE.

I am all for ROCK! (Woo hoo just got my Disturbed tickets!)

Best song I have found for running - Godzilla - Come with me! I feel really empowered - and give youths I am running past a death stare whilst listening to it!!

I tried running on the treadmill with music tonight. Totally messed up my rythym and I was trying to stride to match the beat.

I didn't like the feeling that the music was dictating my run and turned it off quick.

Must admit it does take a while to get used to walking or running with music, at first especially me, tend to bump into things or fall over low walls into bushes etc...

I have never used it outside. I like the freedom

There was nothing on the tele last night so I gave it a go. Yuck. It might be because the Treadmill dictates the pace so the only way to fit the music is to adjust your stride.

Whatever, it didn't work for me

Here's an oddity then... for those hills where the only thing that's going to see you to the top is sheer grit - the theme from 'Zulu' by John Barry! Sends shivers up your spine..

I'm listening to running podcasts at the moment, some genius put them together, and they tell you when to start running and when to slow down - saves me fumbling for my watch all the time. They are set to some quite cheesy trance, which is actually ok for running, i think I'll probably switch to some rockier stuff when I get to the end of the program.

The site for the podcasts is Podcasts if anyone is interested

I used my boyfriends MP3 recently and it was great - far better than using mine!! I didn't know what was coming up as the next track and it kept me really interested. The problem with putting the music on yourself is that you always know what you've got. Variety and surprises can really spark up a run and made me smile just when I needed it.

From time to time, get someone else to mix it up for you on your iPod and see if that helps at all

I run to everything really.
Mainly classic and heavy rock.
I like a good bit of AC/DC to run to

But pretty much anything with a steady beat is good.

Hey,

Have to say I'm a killers fan myself!

Check out the "Training Music" on EnduranceSource.com for loads of suggestions! Also feel free to leave a few in the comments box if you like as well!

I go through stages of listening to music when I run. Every once in a while I just don't put the head-phones in and it's really enjoyable to just run with no music!!

On the other hand there are some days when the motivation definitely needs a kick!

I have to run to music. Mentally I believe that no one can see me if I have my ipod on as I block everything else out and concentrate on my pace and motivation. My mind wanders at the best of times and the music keeps me focussed.

I'm currently running to Dave Pearce's Trance anthems which is great cos the pace doesn't change between tracks and I can keep the momentum going.
