a-n-s... s'ok, no offence taken You're right, you don't know me and so what you said was a generalisation.

It's just that I have been struggling with a persistant injury since April 2006 that the med profession, both NHS and private, have been unable to fix so far as it appears to be a very rare case. But throughout I have represented my club at a series of 15 out of a possible 16 races last year plus a marathon in Miami. I put in 100% effort at every one of those races, wearing my club kit with pride if I picked up a race prize.

Last year was literally a case of blood, sweat and tears (which you could read about if you want... it's all in the Somerset Series thread in South West topic section on here) but also pride at representing my club...quite often it was only myself and my partner representing the club.

Speaking of my partner... we were engaged to be married but two weeks ago today he ended our relationship, the chairman knows about this too and therefore knew how fragile I was, but still chose to phone me to tell me that my achievements were not good enough. Yeah... I guess he is a bloke and they don't always think before they act, but I still don't see why he had to treat me any differently to the other members...no one else has had a phone call like that.

I guess bottom line is, life isn't treating me too well at the moment. My ex-husband is also making things awkward while I'm trying to put pieces together, and I could really really do with something just to go right. I just need a break, just one nice thing, so I can get up on my feet before I get kicked again

munch munch munch.....

that's the sound of me eating humble pie

I was presented with the Ladies Best Performance in Short Race Award today, I guess they must have had a rethink

I really wish I hadn't had that phone call last week though
I am really grateful that my hard work last year and performances were acknowledged, but now I'm wondering if it was my reaction on the phone that made them change their mind....

I think I'm just going to put the whole incident behind me and accept the good

I think you are worrying too much and that you got that prize because you deserved it and for no other reason, so what if you are eating humble pie, we all have to do that at sometime or another, it takes the bigger person to admit it when it happens.

Should you have been in a better place than where you are right now, you would have still been pi***d off but would have coped better.

You also have to remember that you bothered your arse to turn up, some people wouldn't have had the good grace if they didn't think they were going to get anything.

Great result Trin

If you feel that you have made huge achievments (and it sounds to me as though you have, being injured and all) then not getting an award doesn't take away from what you've actually done. It's nice to get some acknowledgement now and then, but really... running is a personal thing - you know truely how well or badly you do, and you should reflect on how amazing it must have felt to have done so well in your races... take that feeling with you on Sunday. I doubt you went out on those races, pushing yourself to get your PBs with the getting of an award from your running club in mind.
That's what I meant.

It wouldn't have been an easy decision for the chairman to make though, there was a good chance you would've been more upset if you'd found out on the day

er... Jason put it much more eloquently.

I should've read to the end of the thread!
I'm glad you got an award because you clearly put in a lot of effort and achieved a lot, I was really only trying to see things from another point of view; I wasn't against you in any meaningful way. I'm sorry if it seemed that way.

Hey you know I said in my post on Saturday "I could really really do with something just to go right. I just need a break, just one nice thing"... well I got a free bus ride today coz the ticket machine on the bus had broke so he let me ride for free. I know it's not much but it's a start...and I was on my way to take a test, which I'm confident that I passed, so maybe things are turning round at last

Congrats Trinity.. maybe the chairman wanted it to be a surprise so you didn't get a chance to write an acceptance speech... "I'd like to thank God sniff sniff I'd like to thank the people who made my trainers without which I wouldn't be here tonight sniff sniff I'd like to thank etc etc..."
