Does this biomechanics chap sell shoes at his clinic?
There is quite a diverse mix of shoes in there, Mizuno Nirvanas are more rigid and supportive than the Kayanos you currently wear, yet he also recommends Wave Riders and Gird Triumph which are both soft and flexible neutral shoes???

Free advice is fantastic, but I doubt I'd ever have learnt this much info from a free source. It wasn't essential that I did it but I had the money to spare and I felt it was far more useful to me than another few running tops or something so I went for it

So what you saying simkiss our advice aint good enough for you now is it

Not at all Cheriton, just hadn't had any offers from people to come and fondle my feet, well not for free anyhow
Sensible... yeah this guy does sell trainers, but didn't try and flog me any - just advised on what would be good for me in the future. The recommended shoes list was produced by computer - basically a bitta software that he uses and inputs all my data, biomechanical probs etc, and the comp then works out which shoes best suit my gait. Interesting point though - I have to be honest my knowledge of trainers spans about as far as the two pairs I own Something I'll look into no doubt

It all sounds fascinating Richard! I'd love to get a test done .. and soon. I've had several running injuries in my right leg (just recovering from a knee injury now) and I'm fairly sure they're all down to my gait. I'm hopeless at self-analysis and although I think I overpronate to a degree I'm not sure how much! I must look for a specialist local to me!

Cheriton... if you've seen my race shoes you'll realise that's probably not too much of a concern for me, lol!
Watch me go!
Sarah E... my self analysis is pretty useless too, that and it's pretty hard to watch yourself running from behind, lol!
So many people end up injured and wondering what's causing it - exactly why something like this is so bloomin useful in my opinion!

My white gloves are pure class I'll have you know
I think I accepted long ago that as a runner I will always struggle to gain any form of street cred

Sorry - been away so missed a bit!!
As a shoe geek and previously a tech rep with a running brand, have encountered numerous physios/biomechanics consultants. The massive majority have been superb at analysing and diagnosing problems or faults, but several have been shocking at recommending shoes on the back of this. This is not me saying he doesn't know what he's doing as his diagnosis is clearly very comprehensive. What surprises me in this case is that a computer came up with recommendations, not the specialist. There is a large spectrum of shoes on there, from neutral shoes to mild stability to moderate stability to strong support shoes?? I can't believe that they would all be appropriate for your particular running style?
p.s The gloves rock, I have a similar pair!!!

That's fair enough sensible... sounds like you know your trainers pretty well! I'd be interested to know which trainers in the list are of which type, which stand out like a sore thumb etc... I'm a slight overpronator and would obviously be interested to know which of these shoes are best suited to me! I'm sure Colin (the guy who did my assessment) would be appreciative of the feedback on the system too!
He did say he used a database system as with so many new shoes being released/updated each year it's very hard to keep up with what levels of support each trainer offers in each incarnation. Even I've noticed the difference between the Asics Kayano XII and XIII!

Mizuno Wave Riders and Saucony grid Triumphs are both neutral so wouldn't have thought they'd be right for you? At the other end of the scale, Mizuno Wave Nirvanas would likely be too rigid for you? Asics DS Trainers and Mizuno Wave Elixirs would be great for speedwork/racing but still have a little support.
Interesting that the computer only suggested certain brands, no Nike, Brooks, Adidas, NB?

Cheers for that Sensible... I guess it depends what brands are on the database! lol. Just goes to show how useful it can be to get advice and opinions from a number of sources!
I'll get in touch with Colin later and see if he can further explain the situation... not trying to prove anyone 'wrong', just to get an understanding as to why things are as they are etc.

Hi there
Sorry if this has already been discussed, but when you go to a specialist running shop and get a normal gait analysis, roughly how much does it cost?
