Here's mine then...
PART ONE
We had been trying to get a social event planned probably for about a year, but after initial enthusiasm, each time it kind of disintegrated...I guess because no one took the lead.
So early on this year, while going through some major life trauma, I decided to try again because I so needed something to look forward to (sad innit!).
At the beginning the plans seemed to be going well, with members adding to the list of attendees, dates talked about, races suggested etc, until the social was narrowed down to one date that would suit all incorporating what sounded like a lovely 10k race. Sorted
But as the weeks went by more and more fell off the list for various reasons until we had dwindled down to 3 hardcore runners and one super-hardcore supporter
It was a tad disappointing because I for one was looking forward to meeting some more RunnersForumites, particularly main man Dan. Anyway, it couldn't be helped.
I had elected to drive up Friday and stay over rather than do 6 hours driving in one day with a race in between, which was great on Friday but not so great on Saturday while I was waiting for the others to arrive. Basically I had 5 hours to kill in an area where you'd struggle to fill 20 minutes! At around 2pm I was losing the will to live and had almost talked myself into driving home, and texted Steve and Rich to that effect. But Steve had already left so I couldn't desert at that late stage.
I was fed up and lonely...but then I saw something...could it be a mirage? No, it was real... it was a.... coffee shop

Yayy!! So, with renewed vigour I made straight for it, ordered a ciabatta and a large latte, and sat there for the next hour.
