PART THREE
The start of the race was uphill and I thought to myself "So this must the hill Nat and Steve were talking about...pah! It's nothing to worry about".
The course then gently undulated, although I did start to realise that the undulations were more down than up... so that means there's more up than down to come, and what's more there wasn't much more distance to do it in
The pace felt slightly more than brisk, and I was aware that my lungs were reacting to the dampness in the air. Being an asthma sufferer, I run better in warmer dryer conditions. So I just focused on even breathing, and keeping the pace with Steve.
Then we turned left and OMG... so
that's the hill! I said to Steve "See you at the top", to which he replied "It's not far".
I could see the bend in the road and thought that must be the top, but no. Around the bend there was part two. I confess... I walked a few steps
But once at the top the view of the road back down was so welcoming, and we picked up the pace once again. Ran past the start area and saw Nat, who cheered and clapped as we charged through onward to the second lap.
All I could think about from the start of lap 2 was the hill that we had to climb in the last mile. Sure enough, by the time we got there I was wibbling and I said to Steve that I didn't mind if he wanted to go on without me (secretly hoping that he would so I could slow down a bit). But he was having none of it and wouldn't let me wimp out.
Steve did climb the hill without me though. Another confession... I walked a few more steps

partly due to the pulled muscle from last week, which I thought had healed. But about half way up the hill it suddenly went 'ping' and didn't feel very good at all. At the top of the hill a marshal told me I was currently 3rd lady so that helped me to pick the pace up again. Then that lovely descent, and turning right at the end towards the finish line, where Nat was holding out some chocolate as sprint incentive
The official time of 45.12 was not a great time for me but I can put that down to a recent spell of more relaxed training as I prepare to start a heavy marathon schedule next week. My hill training is somewhat lacking at the moment too, and it showed.
But hey... 3rd Lady

I can't be disappointed with that!
