Part 6.

So off to the pub we went. Nat kindly bought our drinks......Dave/Granty please note...I had a beer, the others stayed on cokes etc.

I had a look around the place and noticed the food was being served in the restaurant section of the pub only...no bar meals! Not exactly what we were looking for...so pint and cocktails, or whatever they were drinking, , downed we decided to move on to find another pub.

One was soon found. After waiting for the sole barmiad to serve us again we found that food was being served in the restaurant only ..and it was fully booked. This was beginning to look seriously bad news...time was passing and we needed to sit down and eat something before starting our drives home.

We had one more go at the next pub and surprise surprise we had the same problem as before........so this explains how we ended up in McDonalds.

Next time we'll need to book a meal somewhere in advance.

I knew what I wanted so ordered asap. The others prevaricated a bit and RS then said he thought he might have a salad. You should have seen the look of horror in the serving girl's face! You could see her thinking "OMG...where will we get a salad from at this time of night?" and also " It's only on the menu to keep Gillian McKeith happy!" It's just as well I wasn't drinking a beer at the time or I'd have spluttered it out..and what a waste that would have been!

Sense prevailed in the end...and to make up for his indiscretion RS ordered a McFlurry for pud!

Well we stayed there for a while...recounting the day, the race and chatting generally...before we realised that we had to say our cheerios and truck on home.

Nat and I again chatted most of the journey back to hers making it an enjoable drive for me..and hopefully not too much of a drag for her! I only got one glare...and indeed it was a look that could kill at 100 paces I'm sure...I couldn't possibly say why!

At Nat's place a coffee helped revive me before the final drive home was commenced. Thankfully the roads were quiet and I got home at around 1:30am. Having sorted out the rabbits..late night feed for them...and another coffee I finally fell into bed at 2am...some 22.5 hours after getting up.

The End.

Surely the lime counts as one of the 5-a-day (or you die) portions of fruit and veg?

PART FOUR

Steve's pretty much covered the rest of the evening. It was a case of hopping from pub to pub in search of sustinence, and with each failure Richard grew ever weaker. I was actually getting quite worried about him. This concern was clearly borne out when we arrived at Mc Donalds. Richard had by that time become delirious as he considered ordering salad

But we gave him a slap to bring him to his senses and he was soon back on track with burger, chips and McFlurry.

Despite the surroundings it was a pleasant evening and all too short. We all headed off home in differing directions, mainly because my satnav had decided to take me the scenic route, even though it was dark and not the best weather for driving down country lanes. I eventually disobeyed instruction and took control, getting home just after midnight.

The End

I'm sorry but I'm a vegetarian and even I don't believe 'McDonalds' and 'salad' belong in the same sentence!

However... beer does
