Hope Iv inspired them
Well this morning I went into school and talked about running in last years marathon with a year 3 group(age 7and8 year olds) and a reception class (4 and 5 year olds), the whole school is learning about London itself and the olympics so thought they might enjoy it, I took in my medal and some pictures, and talked about what a marathon is, the training you have to put in and how you feel, about running over tower bridge and past big ben etc.
they asked lots of good questions, and I mentioned the local fun run to the older class as it has a minimum age of 8 to join, they seemed really excited and were going to go home and ask if they could do it, hopefully i might have inspired some of them to give it a try and also that you can do things that you never thought were possible
felt good )

After running the London Marathon in 1993 I was asked to give a talk about it to a Sunday School class in our local Chapel. One of the lads listening went on to become a Junior fell running champion. Later, I'm told by his mother, he ran up and down Kilimanjaro but finished in 'a bit of a state' - whatever that might mean. Perhaps I should have been more careful about what I said!

That's fantastic! I think it helps to get told by someone else - I can't get my kids off the sofa, but I'm sure with encouragement from outside the family, they'd be less lazy!

Great story. It saddens me that I don't see kids out climbing trees and playing on the field/woodland behind my house - they need all the push they can to get out there! (Though I do blame the parents to a large extent).

If even one of the kids you spoke to takes up running, or sport generally, as a result of it, that makes it very worth while. Well done Alison!
