Running Plan

Morning!

Opinions please? I have a half plan in my head regarding where I want to go with my running in the future but I don't want to take everything too quickly and loose the enjoyment.

Current plan is to run 5k, 3 times a week or so for the next couple of weeks as I don't want to start any proper training over the holiday weekend Then I was going to give the bridge to 10k program a go to increase my distance. The events I'm looking towards are the Great Scottish run in Sept and the Great Edinburgh in October. Probably with a couple of 5k races in between as there's a nice one at the end of June in the botanic gardens.

Then I was playing with the idea of increasing my distance with a view to running the half at Edinburgh next May? I know thats ages away but I gather entries fill up quick for this one.

Am I insane? How long do you need to properly prepare for a half?

Thanks (back to work now)

morning Mellypoos!

I've already got my first half booked in october! only started running in jan... you have plenty of time to get up to the distance, even if you didn't start serious training until christmas you would still get the mileage in....

have you got any 10k's lined up yet? that's your next step to aim for... I went straight in at 10k from nothing... kinda wish I had a couple of 5's under my belt first...

see you if can find a 10k in 2-3 months time to aim for?

good luck girl and keep on running

Morning

Yeah I'm looking at both the great scottish run in glasgow in Sept and the great edinburgh run in october which are both 10ks. Will probably check out the park runs as well soon.

I reckon I have enough time to train I'm just unsure about commiting to it right now but I like to have something to work towards though to keep me motivated so I should just take the leap right?

YES! do it! if you really don't think you're ready when it comes round, either don't do it or run/walk... my aim for october is really just to finish, I've set a maximum time of 2 1/2 hours that I want to finish inside of, which should be achievable as the 10k was 1hr 02mins...

Hi Mel. You've got plenty of time to train for a September 10k, so I'd just go ahead and book those two.

Also, your plan to run 5k three times a week for a few weeks before starting b210k sounds just fine.

GOOD GIRL! I've just sent off two entries, one for 20th June, a 5 miler round Goodwood and one 15th July at Cranleigh, a 10k...

Just need to come up with a suitable plan to start thinking about upping my mileage for the half in october....

I wonder if doing the GSR 2 weeks later is a good idea or not?

the 10 miler... as a beginner, I don't know if it's a good idea to do a 10 miler 2 weeks after a half? I won't have even been running for a year at that point!
