Stating the obvious
Just thought I'd state the obvious really, but hey, everyone go careful out there in this heat, it's not worth being ill for the sake of a run, or even a race, hydrate well and take care.

record numbers of people keeling over in the marathon last sunday
they were lining the streets.
helped one lady who had stopped for a wee, next minute she was out cold on the ground- when she managed to get up she'd smacked all her cheek bone and a lump on her eye was coming up
slightly off topic too - sorry , but does anyone know if the guy that was unconscious came round ? they were injecting him with something when i ran past- by the gate way area.
interesting about the drinking of water to hydrate ..... apparently we are supposed to drink a minimum of 1.5 to 2 litres of water a day - more if we exercise
thats so hard to do - to actually drink that much i mean .
anyone actually tried to consume that much ? i know we supposed to sip it continuously throughout the day - but its still hard.
also interesting about hypotremia .... we have to balance the water drinking with replacment of electrolyte salts dont we....if we sweat a lot and drink just water we can flush out some electrolytes we need - i guess this is where the sports drinks and additives containing salts come into play
sorry for my long and rambling posts - just thinking off the top of my head
hoping its the end of this hot weather now - my running times are suffering and my dogs cant sleep at night - too furry - bring back winter- i'm done with the sun !

I normally manage 2-3 ltrs a day now... I have a litre bottle that sits on my desk. I must admit, I am finding it much easier now it's hot and I've cut out coffee altogether when I'm at work! I am a massive caffine freak so that is quite an impressive thing to have acheived!

I've started to use the nuun tablets that someone recommended the other day, don't taste too awful and definitely stopped the shakey leg thing at miles 6+!!!

I managed to drink a good 3 litres on Sunday; but generally struggle to drink 2 litres.

It rained here a bit earlier so I was really looking forward to a run in it, but by the time I got home and got stretched out it had stopped!! lol
Its still really humid here, I must admit, I'm finding it really hard to run as far as I normally do. I'm starting to think that I must be a winter runner!

went for a run this afternoon at 2pm [when it was about 25°C] and could only do 4K as I was on the point of collapse.
It is not so much the temperature as the humidity so you cannot sweat to get rid of body heat.

This is a myth. We don't need to drink this much water. The figure comes from some dodgy science back in the fifties.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandsty...sses-water-day
I used to drink two pints of water a day a lunctime and two at dinner time, but I've made myself cut down because I was always peeing. It was hard, at first, just to have one pint of water with a meal, but I managed to do it. I still drink too much, with tea and all that.
Tea and coffee counts because although it does have some diuretic effect (about 30% from memory), it also has a hydrating effect. You will also get some fluid from food.
As long as your pee is straw-coloured, you're doing fine.
Hydration is important when exercising. But it's also possible to over-do it. One person who died at the London Marathon did so because they drank too much water.
In the heat, I'd say take some water with you - especially if on a long run - and drink if and when needed.

I drink 2-3L of water over the day usually. If I drink too much it's guaranteed to give me a headache! I will admit to going to the toilet a fair bit during the day, but it helps get away from staring at my computer screens!
