Modgirljulia...
...your challenge, should you wish to accept it is.....
...in 2 parts....
1. To complete your first 10k in September without walking
2. Then do another one before the end of the year 2 mins quicker than your first 10k.
Reasonable?

My challenge has failed. Again.
I've removed it from my sig as it's demotivating me enormously.
I don't want another challenge.

Keep your chin up Carl, if it was easy it wouldn't be a challenge.

Very true. But I've failed by 4 minutes. Twice. After failing the first time, I felt annoyed and I was given a kick up the backside. But, after getting a similar time after focused training, I just don't want to be staring at my signature with it in.

OK I accept the challenge although I don't think I'll do it! (46min 10k for my first ever race in 3 weeks time).
I ran 10k yesterday in 47:29 which was a half a minute improvement from a few weeks ago, but I gave it pretty much everything and flopped over on my lawn when I got home! I couldn't move for a few minutes and my cat attacked me.
Still, I can give it a damn good go

Thank you Ros, I AM ace. <smug grin>
Have PM'ed Owain and asked him to put me on the awesome list.
Wouldn't mind another challenge, but I don't really have anything coming up. Thinking of entering a trail race in October, but we haven't done anything about that yet. It'll be another 5k event, and I'll want to get my time down for that. If we enter that I'll ask for a challenge.

These challenges should be fun apart I guess from the ultra competitive types, I don't think you can say you've failed if you've given it a good go, and not meeting a challenge isn't a failure anyway - you have discovered, maybe, your limits for now (which is not to say you can't improve as you go along if you keep working it may just take more time).
One of life's biggest challenges is accepting where you are and being happy with it. So I challenge you to look at the fact you run, you give it a go, you are a good bloke all round, and be happy with that, and if your times improve it's a bonus, if they don't just smile anyway and enjoy the running
