Good session.

Just had to share this with everyone

Went to the club last night not feeling 100% but as I have said before, joining a club makes you go out when you don't always feel like it.
So I had a look at the trianing plan and it was a route I hadnt done before so instantly I was looking forward to it.
We left in a tight group and ran for about a mile as the warm up, and then we arrived at the start of the training section. Basically it was run as hard as you can for 700m. The route was a circle around some warehouses / buildings and everytime you get back to the start you had a 90second recovery.
So, we all started off in one group and I was feeling quite good. After the first lap the group split up in to 3 groups depending on your pace. I was pleased to find I was sitting in the 2nd group and at the front of the group as well

The first group had to do 7 laps, the group I was in did 6 laps and I think the group behind us also did 6 laps.
On the 5th lap I was starting to hurt but I kept on pushing up the hill towards the start/finish and the fast runners were almost lapping us!! Right! I thought, Im going to give it my all on this last lap and boy did I!
I got half way round and thought I was going to be sick but I kept on pushing, got to the bottom of the hill and dug deep and pushed up the hill. I did get passed by one of the other runners in my group but I didnt care, I couldnt have given any more if I had tried.

Was a bit annoyed I forgot to setup my garmin correctly so I can't see what my pace was for each lap but looking at the graph I was going from about 4:51/mi to 7:31/mi, I reckon the average was probably just below the 7:00/mi so I am really really pleased with that and now that my training starts for Edinburgh Marathon and Alloa 1/2 I hope my pace will increase over this year.

O.

Good stuff - it's good to take people out of their comfort zone and shake the training up every now and then.

Great stuff Owain!! That's very impressive running. I reckon you are going to kick ass at tomorrow's race. running at 4:51 pace even for a short distance is really fast. Onwards and upwards as they say

Thanks all. To be honest the fast bit was probably on the slight downhill section before the climb to the start/finish but I didnt think I was running that fast! Can't wait to get rid of the gut a bit more so I am lighter and I guess this should allow me to maintain higher speeds for longer.

Feck, you are competitive

You beat me during the socials despite being heavier and I suspect your target time is faster than mine

Which target time is that Giles?

I only get competitive when racing, during training I don't think about it, just run to how I feel on the day On Thursday I was feeling good.
