I use the Anquet mapping system on my computer, just trace my route and it comes up with the exact distance and amount of ascent. But it's fairly expensive to buy. I use it mainly for measuring my coast to coast routes across Scotland.
Cheers!

I use a Satnav watch which clocks your distance, avg speed, calories burnt etc. Garmin models are very popular.

Roads (which isn't that often) I just use good ole Google Earth or Google Maps. In fact, I use both on my virtual run.

Good thing is, they're free! lol

You can also track your run distance at different sites online.

try www.mapmytri.com. If you stick to roads then tick the 'follow roads' box. This greatly speeds up the tracing process.

Hi

I measure all my runs with a surveyor's wheel, you can buy one off e bay for very little money £15 and it is the most accurate.

I've got a gps that I use for walking and cycling. So far I've walked the route with the gps (after plotting it on memory-map to get a rough idea of the length).

thanks for the link to mapmyrun.com

beats my old paper diary any day!

the only shame is the routes that I have been running for years are all a bit shorter than I had them from measuring off the OS map which means I am even slower than I thought.

Behind my house there is a park with a concrete track which I think it about 300-600meters? can't wait to find out, I guess its around 400m

I tend to run on the grass just on the inside.

Wanted to measure it been thinking about getting a surveryors wheel/measuring wheel.

Appreciate any ideas

Click on training log.

You can map and track all your runs and it makes charts etc.

The runners world site for America is much more advanced than the UK one.
Guess more users make it more worth while.
