Talking Reasonably Priced Running Gear

Hi All

I am a very new runner and I am just starting to run a bit at the gym but hopefully in the not to distant future I hope to start to run outside (and get
some fresh air into my lungs)

I don't have any running specific trainers yet or a jacket (or anything else you might need for that matter)

Does anyone have any suggestions or good websites you could direct me to for reasonably priced gear.

I'm not a tightwad and would rather pay for better gear but money is tight so any suggestions are appreciated.

Littleminxie

The best investment in you can make will be in the correct footwear

With the clothes thing theres loads to choose from if your going to internet shop

the companies i have dealt with and have had great service from are Northern runner in newcastle, wiggle ,co.uk sole obsession for shoes but there are loads of others but i can't recommend them as i have'nt used them

There appears to be a problem with a firm called ontherun so i'd steer clear of them

tkmaax seem quite popular with some members

On the shoe front get your gait analysis done at a specisalist running shop it's generally free and will save you problems in the future also try on various makes of shoe as they can vary in size width etc.

Ihope this is of some help to you good luck with your running
take it easy!

Smile Thanks again

Hi Cheriton

Thank again, once more you have come to my rescue with some helpful advice.

Its nice to know if some places are best to avoid.

From doing a little research I have discovered I am a 'Under Pronator' as I walk on the outside of my heals and I have noticed that a lot of footwear is for neautral persons, so I am glad I made the effort to find out.

I had no idea!!

Thanks again

I am glad to come down from that roof sometimes.

Cheers

Littleminxie

If you are buying your first pair of running shoes I would advise going to a proper running shop as they will have a look at your feet and advise you what you need. Of course, once you have the right pair then you can buy subsequent pairs on the internet to save money if you wish

I agree with the comments about shoes. Good running shops are the place to get them. You can try loads of pairs on and get some good advice. Even if you know whether you are a over pronator, under pronator or neutral not all shoes for that type of foot are the same. There is no subsitute for trying them on then going for a short run in them. All good running shops will let you do this.

Clothes you can buy anywhere.

You can find a shop near you on the shopfinder page of www.getrunning.eu

Almost all runners wear down shoes on the outside of their heels, this doesn't mean that you are an under-pronator. Get yourself along to a specialist shop and get them to look at your feet when you are running.
If you are up near Newcastle then pop along to Start Fitness, massive store on Pilgrim Street in the city centre where they'll be able to sort you out. There is also Northern Runner but not sure where the store is?

I agree with all the sentiments above. Shoes are THE most important investment you'll make. Getting the right pair, a good pair, will save heartache and frustration in the future if you start getting injuries because of it and have to rest up for ages.

That been said, there's nothing to say you can't go speak to a speacialist running shop guy/gal and then take that advice and search for the cheapest pair online.

Apart from shoes Aldi do a goodish and cheap limited range of running gear twice a year...normally in March and October.

Northern Runner is down the side of the Gate near Grainger Town, they specialise in Saucony and Brooks where as Start Fitness have a better Asics stock.

Knew Northern Runner was around there somewhere!!
Also, if you go into a specialist store and get advice/gait analysis from them, at least buy one pair of shoes from them. If everyone just buys off the internet, these stores will eventually close and then where will people go for proper gait assessment??

I quite agree to use a rugby phrase "USE IT OR LOOSE IT"
