doing the manchester 10k on 18th may, am 32 and play football three times a week but only been running 2 months, go out every other day and am up to 8k(in 54 minutes)
what would you advise week of race? race is sunday, would you do th 8k prctice on the friday?
You should taper before a race to be rested and ready for the race itself. This applies to 10ks as well as longer races so I 'd rest for the 2 days before the 10k if I were you.
If you can try to get as close as poss to the 10k distance 1 week before race day...it will breed confidence for the event itself. Then do a speed session on the Tuesday and a steady 8k on the Thursday.
if you do an 8k on friday, just make sure it's a very slow n steady one, though even better I'd just go for a short steady run on the tuesday and thurs, and rest on the other days, with perhaps a bit of stretching too.
