Not the amount that I run, besides, the thought of a few beers at the end of the run has almost the opposite effect.

Not exactly ruined it, but just made it less important

For me it has brought alot of people together, 7 of us entered the Silverstone 1/2 marathon this year and it was really good to know other people doing it, made it a lot less daunting, it also made it easier as we all socialise together everyone understood the importance of training and getting prepared for the day. To which I am sure we will do more events together as a collective.

I try not to drink as much on a Saturday night because I know it will interfere with my Sunday run.
How sad am I?

Very good point. When I first started running, from Huddersfield Sports Centre, we used to organise coach trips to the Windermere /Kendal 10 mile race and Scarborough ½ marathon. As you say, it was far less daunting running with a group of people we trained with every week. Also, the friendly competition and quest for PB's helped our progress.
Cheers!

I only worry about that if I have a race on the sunday.
So I can look forward to a boring almost alcohol free saturday night this week.
I just hope it`s worth the sacrifice.........

I struggle with the 'alcohol' bit, or lack of it when everone else is indulging, but I suppose it is doing me good, the running certainly is.......I think!

Hello
I think running can improve your social life, I joined a running club and lots of events have been organized, in my first year we went to Club La Santa in Lanzarote for a week and last year a trip to Amsterdam was organized to coincide with the Amsterdam Marathon, Half Marathon & 10K, you could and race or just spectate, we all had a great time and its a good way to make new friends. Even just out running you can make new friends etc. It seems strange how many runners are real ale drinkers........is there a link?

Practically everybody I know, I know as a direct result of being a runner... so no, no adverse affect for me.

Running hasn't ruined my social life... but not running has, because I find it hard to be around people who talk running all the time when I'm facing a life without it
